| Posted: 29 Apr 2010 11:00 PM PDT The British election campaign has reached its dramatic climax, with the third debate between the "major" party representatives, but the furor created by Gordon Brown's confrontation with that "bigoted woman" who dared ask a question about immigration may have pulled the rug out from under the Labor party before the clash of the partisans was aired. In British politics, as in America, immigration is an issue that separates the elites from the hoi polloi: the former don't want to talk about it, except to give reasons why it ought to be increased, and the latter deeply resent it, as the economy tanks and immigrants line up for welfare benefits. In hard times, when ordinary people are being squeezed, immigrants as scapegoats are a popular target, but Brown's run-in with Gillian Duffy, the "bigoted" grandmother, underscored the arrogance not only of the British Prime Minister but of the elites he speaks for, who feel nothing but disdain for ordinary people as they struggle to survive in an era of diminished expectations. How dare Grandma Duffy ask such a politically incorrect question! Doesn't she know the rules? |
| Nuclear Non-Proliferation Regime Has Triple Standards Posted: 29 Apr 2010 11:00 PM PDT The abolition of nuclear weapons — and a halt to the spread of the deadly armaments — will be a major talking point at the month-long Review Conference on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), scheduled to take place at the United Nations beginning next week. The conference, held every five years, comes at a time when the administration of U.S. President Barack Obama has pledged the near-impossible: ushering in a "world without nuclear weapons." |

The Free Gaza movement's "Freedom Flotilla" will see three cargo ships and five passenger boats with about 600 people aboard attempting to deliver hundreds of tonnes of emergency aid to Gaza's besieged civilian population of 1.5 million people. |
| The Tea Party and Big Spending on War Posted: 29 Apr 2010 11:00 PM PDT Largely due to the recently passed health-care reform bill (aka the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010) that has a massive $940 billion price tag over ten years, the folks in the Tea Party movement have been in the news a lot lately. The Tea Party isn't a formal political party or organization, but more a loose conglomeration of groups such as: What these groups and others share in common is an opposition to big government and big government spending, along with the taxes needed to finance such spending. [As an aside, the Tea Party movement takes its name from the Boston Tea Party, which was a direct act of protest by British colonists who believed the Tea Act violated their right to be taxed only by their own elected representatives. It's worth noting, however, that the taxation that the Tea Party opposes is not without representation – Tea Party activists may not like the taxes, but they are enacted by representatives chosen in elections where Tea Partiers were allowed to vote.] For example, from the Tea Party Patriots website: |

| Harvard Grads: Not as Smart as You Think Posted: 29 Apr 2010 09:00 PM PDT By most accounts, kids who attend Harvard have some sort of exceptional ability. Of the ten or twenty Harvard graduates I know, this is true down the line. Furthermore, most of them have been successful at a relatively young age in the fields of business, banking or media. But what I've noticed among my friends is that beyond their career success, Harvard grads are not much different from me or anybody else who didn't quite make it to the Ivy League. Actually, they are just as likely to be flawed, riddled with vices, and confounded by emotion and personal relationships. |
| Posted: 29 Apr 2010 09:00 PM PDT The liberals hate the middle class. There, I said it, and I am glad. Once again I am a truth teller, in this case speaking truth to stone heads. So certain am I of the truth of my asseveration that I honestly doubt any liberal will take issue with me. Can you imagine a liberal coming forward and saying: "Wrong, Tyrrell! I love the middle class." Well, I guess I can imagine it, because liberals are effortless liars. Yet what specifically about the middle class might the liberals adduce to demonstrate their affection? The middle class' sobriety? Hard work? Love of country? Love of liberty? |

Behind the euphuism 'prevention of Infiltration' lies a truth which Israeli officials are trying desperately to conceal. This simple truth has been cardinal throughout Israel's existence and continues to be so. It is a truth that connects the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in 1948 and the recent military order that would result in the forced expulsion of many thousands of Palestinians. It is the truth that Israel was founded on a policy of systematic population transfer and it has been committed to this policy ever since its inception. |

I have a 10-year old son. He is big for his age but his soft eyes and his sweet smile betray his tender years. He is a child regardless of his shoe size. This morning, he was practically in tears when he found a cockroach hanging out in his sneaker, to which he ran across the room at a speed that surprised even me. While it's true, finding a roach in your shoe is quite disgusting, I couldn't help but notice how childlike his reaction had been. I calmly reassured him that although cockroaches are "gross", they are otherwise innocuous. |

Far from genocide, Blacks came from all over Africa to enjoy the prosperity, medical care, education, and relative freedom that the White people created there. They ate so well, were treated so well with medical care and housing that they had lots and lots of babies till they overran the place.
