It's MTV's World
Cup of Rock! The World Cup is the greatest sporting event on the planet, a super-sized stage where legends are born with every strike of the ball, where infamy is just a moment away and where the dreams of millions live or die by the minute. That's why, in the spirit of the 2010 MTV Musical March Madness competition, we've created "The World Cup (Of Rock)," a FIFA-style tournament that takes 16 of the biggest nations — rock-wise (sorry Algeria) — and pits them against one another to determine just which is the most rockingly awesome. Heavyweights like the U.S.A., England, France and Germany are all here, but so are a handful of surprisingly strong sleeper countries. As the Cup progresses, we'll be unveiling the match-ups, and it's up to you to vote your favorites through. In the end, only one nation will be left standing: the world champion of rock.
Australia vs. Japan
The team from Japan barely made their way into this round (they needed a tiebreaker to push their way into the quarterfinals), but they showed incredible poise and power on the field against some tough opponents (mostly thanks to the healthy enthusiasm for fans of metallers Dir En Grey). On the other side of the pitch, Australia stands unbeaten but also somewhat untested, as they breezed through the softest group in the opening round. But that doesn't mean their core — lead by metal icons AC/DC, alt-rock survivors Silverchair and brooding rocker Nick Cave — isn't up to the task of taking on the Blue Samurai. Which team will advance into the semifinals? Only you can decide!

Shugo: I'm assuming everyone on here loves Jrock, if so, why dont you go and vote to get Jrock some major recognition! You're not just voting for Dir En Grey by the way, you're voting for ALL Jrock, that just seems to be the only Jrock band MTV are aware of.
