GOLD, OIL AND WATER

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Libya's central bank has nearly 144 tonnes of gold in its vaults.

And, Libya has oil and water.

Patrick Henningsen, at Global Research, 15 April 2011, has an article entitled:

The West Versus China: A New Cold War Begins on Libyan Soil

Among the points made:

1. AFRICOM documents reveal the US aim in Libya: the control of resources such as oil, and the eviction of China from North Africa.

The US formed AFRICOM in 2007; 49 countries signed on; Libya refused to join.

2. China has 50 large projects in Libya.

However, China’s investments in North Africa are now having to be reduced.

3. Libya’s Great Man Made River could make Libya the 'bread basket' of Africa. Agriculture in Libya is in competition with Israel.

4. One AFRICOM study suggests that China will eventually send troops to Africa to defend its interests there:

“Now China has achieved a stage of economic development which requires endless supplies of African raw materials and has started to develop the capacity to exercise influence in most corners of the globe. The extrapolation of history predicts that distrust and uncertainty will inevitably lead the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to Africa in staggering numbers…”

Half Hearted Defence of Libyan People = no Exit Strategy for NATO

Journalists have been asking about the exit strategy from the UN R2P engagement in Libya ever since it started.

The answeris that the exit is bound up in the success of the mission.

The success of the mission depends on several factors - political actions such as blocking Libya State TV and recalling the mercenaries, and then military factors.

The fact is that NATO is sucking its thumb. Tanks and artillery have been pounding Libyas third largest city, Miserata, for many days. They are in the open, able to be hit, but only in the last 2 days has action been taken.

This half hearted action reflects a shade of opinion within NATO that actually sympathises with Gaddafi.   Turkey is the main purveyor of this view within NATO, but there is also an unholy alliance in the commentariat between far right and far left, both of whom would prefer a laissez faire policy to human rights abuses.

Either the Allies pull their fingers out, or we are in for a long, bloody, drawn out human tragedy in Libya.

Why no action from Coalition on Libya State TV?

Following on from this letter, I have just written again to my MP, John Penrose (WSM, Con)  on the subject of Libya State TV.  I would ask everyone who wishes to see a swift end to Gaddafi's regime to copy, customise and send to their own MP. I am writing to express my astonishment and frustration that Gol Gaddafi's Libya State TV propaganda machine is still spreading his distorted view of reality across Libya.

A week has passed since the following exchange was recorded in Hansard:

A week later, nothing has happened. How urgent is urgent?

We can be sure that if Churchill had been offered the chance of stopping Goebbel's propaganda it would have happened the next day.

Everyone is feeling anxiety and doubt about our involvement in Libya. Journalists are obsessing about the exit strategy. The fact is that the exit strategy is implicit in the success of the campaign. Blocking Libya State TV is an effective, cost-free, non-violent means of assisting this success. It is extraordinary that the thorny question of arming the rebels is under discussion while the matter of shutting down Gaddafi's propaganda machine is on the back burner, as indeed are other diplomatic means. There is the question of countries who are sending  mercenaries, and also now we learn that Chadian regulars are in the country. Has anyone taken this up with Chad in any way?

I have heard no substantive arguments against this line of action, though I imagine there may be some kind of gentleman’s agreement among governments along the lines of “I will not jam your signal if you will not jam mine”. Clearly this convention no longer holds now that Ghaddafi is subject to a UN R2P action and no longer seen as a legitimate ruler. 

Could it be that the Government is unwilling to transgress into the liberty of Nilesat to make a profit?  If so, this reason should be tested in the court of public opinion. The people might take a different view of the balance of private profit and the importance of defeating Gaddafi.

Please take this matter up with  the PM, the Defence Secretary and the Foreign Secretary as a matter of urgency.

On 3 April 2011, in the UK's Sunday Express, Gordon Thomas and Marco Giannangeli report that MOUSSA KOUSSA, the former Libyan head of Intelligence, has been working for MI6 and the CIA for many years.

LIBYA DEFECTOR MOUSSA KOUSSA IS AN MI6 AGENT

In 1978, Moussa Koussa attended Michigan State University in the USA.

He earned a degree in sociology and presumably made contact with the CIA.

In 1979 he was in the UK and presumably made contact with MI6.

His activities seem to favour the CIA and its friends.

OBAMA'S JIHADIS

On 31 March 2011, the Economist has an article entitled "Islam and the Arab revolutions: A golden opportunity?"



From this we learn:



1. The rebels in Libya are people like (A) Sufian bin Qumu, who worked for Osama bin Laden in the Sudan.



(B) Abdel Hakim al-Hisadi, who trained at bin Laden's base in Afghanistan.



2. In the 1980s, Western governments armed and used the jihadis in Afghanistan.



In the mid-1990s they formed the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, to oppose Gaddafi.



3. Egypt and Tunisia have now freed thousands of Islamists.



Libya’s Islamic Fighting Group and Egypt's Jamaat Islamiya both pursued terror campaigns in the 1990s.



The Libyan Islamic Fighting Group has changed its name to the Libyan Islamic Movement, and its 12-member politburo has pledged allegiance to the National Council in Benghazi.



4. There are "disturbing manifestations of the Islamists' rise."



Anwar Mitri is a school administrator in Egypt.



He is a Christian.



On 20 March 2011, Muslim vigilantes in his village arrested him, 'tried' him and lopped off his right ear.



Similar attacks in other parts of Egypt have targeted alcohol stores.



One Moslem was murdered because of alleged apostasy.



A recent rumour that Islamists planned to throw acid at unveiled women led to the evacuation of Christian students from a university dormitory.



In Egypt, Islamic sharia is described as 'the principal source of legislation'.



5. The latest issue of Inspire, the mouthpiece of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), hails the Arab revolutions.



On 28 March 2011, in Yemen, AQAP raided a munitions factory in Yemen.



150 people were killed.



6. Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the 'star preacher' on Al Jazeera, approves of the Western intervention in Libya.



But, he has condemned Bahrain’s democracy activists.

US-NATO bombings kill civilians in Tripoli



On 1 April 2011, at WSWS, Bill Van Auken reports:



1. According to the Vatican’s man in Libya, Bishop Martinelli, US-NATO air strikes are killing a growing numbers of civilians.



According to the Vatican representative,"Of particular concern, in the district of Buslim, a building collapsed because of the bombing killing 40 people...



"Yesterday I reported that the bombing had affected some hospitals...I can now confirm that one of these hospitals is in Misda."



The Euronews television channel reported on damage to the hospital and nearby homes.



Bishop Martinelli cited an incident in which an air strike affected a civilian neighborhood.



Martrinelli told the Fides news agency, "they are hitting ... targets which are in the midst of civilian neighborhoods."



2. The Associated Press interviewed the family of an 18-month-old toddler, Sirajuddin al-Sweisi, who was killed when US-NATO planes attacked the village of Khorum.



The boy’s mother said that their house was hit at about six in the morning. She found her son with a piece of hot metal embedded into the side of his face.



"His blood was streaming down my arm," she said weeping. "He was crying out, ‘Mama, Mama’, reaching out with his hand to me."



OBAMA GENOCIDE.



The Somalialand Press reports that black Africans in Libya are being kidnapped, raped, and murdered by U.S. backed rebels.



Onwuchekwa Jemie– a Nigerian journalist– claims the number of black Africans slaughtered to be in the thousands.



The Financial Times mentioned one black African who was threatened by rebel sympathizers who told him he would be murdered once Gaddafi is overthrown and the rebels take complete control over the country

On 31 March 2011, we read that he mysteriously arrived at the UK's Farnborough airport before being taken to London.

Should the Allies work within the letter or the spirit of UNSC 1973?

The commentators are agonising over the legal terms of UNSC 1973, which underpins the terms of the UN intervention in Libya.

Jonathan Freedland in the Guardian argues that the Allies should stop when Gaddafi's forces should not be attacked unless they are actively threatening the people.

This is a recipe for Gaddafi to play a cat and mouse game, stopping until the Allies stand down, then starting again, provoking more Allied action, then stopping, over and over. This is clearly impractical, but consistent with a literal reading of 1973.

Clearly, the intent of the resolution is to stop all threat to the Libyan population. If Gaddafi were to be left in power over Libya, the people would be at risk from his revenge. If Libya should be partitioned, the revolutionaries in his Western portion would suffer.

Therefore the intent of 1973 will only be implemented if Gaddafi leaves Libya. Which means that the Allies must enable the revolutionaries to win.

One powerful tool to this end that has not yet been deployed is for us to block Gaddafi's TV transmission.

The second is to facilitate the exile of Gaddafi, his family and friends to Uganda or somewhere.

Unfortunately, the third  tool is to give arms (specifically, anti-tank missiles) to the rebels. This sticks in my craw, but it follows logically from the general argument, that Gaddafi must go.

Campaign to close Gaddafi propaganda machine

Campaigners are pressing for the closure of Gaddafi’s propaganda channel, Libya State TV as a non-violent complement to the effort to protect the Libyan people.

The remit of the Allies is to protect the people. The effect of the Allied action is to produce a level playing field by removing Ghaddafi’s heavy weapons. The Allies are overlooking one heavy weapon that Gaddafi has in use on a daily basis: his TV station Al Jamahira 2 State TV.

Gaddafi uses his TV station to project his delusions to his supporters, to influence and control the thoughts and opinions of his supporters. It is clearly inappropriate for a deluded individual who is declared to have lost his legitimacy as a ruler to be permitted to spread his delusions through a TV station, especially when they result in delaying the successful end of the Libyan crisis.

Nilesat is Ghaddafi’s main TV service provider. They are located in Egypt. It would simply take a certain amount of diplomatic pressure to get them agree to deny service to him.  There would not be any need to bomb transmission masts.

The importance of Ghaddafi’s broadcasts to his war effort should not be under-estimated.  We have seen the blatant misinformation that his ministers put out with regard to a “ceasefire”.  Recent examples of Libya State TV misinformation is that the huge demonstration in London on March 26th was not against Osborne’s cuts, but against the UN intervention in Libya. They also described Eman al-Obeidy, the lawyer who was dragged out of the reporters’ hotel, as a prostitute, drunk and thief.

Libyans are subjected to this propaganda every time they turn on the TV. He maintains his supporters’ morale with his TV broadcasts, and affects their cognitive framework with misinformation.

If his broadcasts were stopped, it is reasonable to expect that support for Ghaddafi would diminish among the Libyan people. If families of loyalist soldiers no longer express enthusiasm for Ghaddafi, morale among his soldiers will be reduced.  Blank TV screens would be a symbol to loyalists that Ghaddafi is losing control. There would also be a positive net effect on world opinion, since some broadcasters are using Libyan State TV as if it were a reliable news source.

It might even be possible for the Allies to use Nilesat, Gaddafi’s transmitter, to broadcast accurate information to all Libyan people.

In summary, this is an action that is non-violent, cost-free and can reasonably be expected to help to shorten the length of our engagement in Libya.

Clearly this convention no longer holds now that Ghaddafi is subject to a UN R2P action and no longer seen as a legitimate ruler.

Likewise, many Muslims had not a jot of interest in who owned Jerusalem but fighting the infidel was a good route to political influence.

Few in the West may know that Libya - along with Egypt - sits over the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer; that is, an ocean of extremely valuable fresh water.

So yes, this "now you see it, now you don't" war is a crucial water war.

Control of the aquifer is priceless - as in "rescuing" valuable natural resources from the "savages".

This Water Pipelineistan - buried underground deep in the desert along 4,000 km - is the Great Man-Made River Project (GMMRP), which Gaddafi built for $25 billion without borrowing a single cent from the IMF or the World Bank (what a bad example for the developing world).

The GMMRP supplies Tripoli, Benghazi and the whole Libyan coastline.

The amount of water is estimated by scientists to be the equivalent to 200 years of water flowing down the Nile.

Compare this to the so-called three sisters - Veolia (formerly Vivendi), Suez Ondeo (formerly Generale des Eaux) and Saur - the French companies that control over 40% of the global water market.

All eyes must imperatively focus on whether these pipelines are bombed.

An extremely possible scenario is that if they are, juicy "reconstruction" contracts will benefit France.

That will be the final step to privatize all this - for the moment free - water.

2. Oligarchs.

On September 11, 1990, President George H W Bush spoke of a New World Order, which means 'rule by a few oligarchs'.

3. We can see 'the oligarchization of the U.S. economy.'

4. The US military.

The US attack on Libya is called a "humanitarian intervention."

5. The US record

In 1994 a US missile shot down a plane carrying both the Rwandan President Juvénal Habyarimana and Burundian President Cyprien Ntaryamira.

This led to the Rwandan Genocide.

The US did nothing to provide humanitarian intervention.

Today, the Obama Administration is responsible for its own war crimes.

US taxpayers continue to pay for the continued subjugation of Palestine.

The Obama Administration goes in for Balkanization, carefully crafted chaos, and death and destruction to achieve its unstated objectives.

6. What about Libya?

Libya has oil.

Sarkozy's actions in Libya aid Israel.

Le Figaro newspaper identified Sarkozy as a Mossad asset.

"As long as Muslims are fighting each other they won't have time to focus on Israel or Palestine."

AFRICOM, the United States military's Africa Command, was created to give the US control of Africa.

Libya's Revolution brought free health care and education to the people and subsidized housing.

Libyans have a form of direct democracy. The US is going in for counter-Revolution.

7. What about Lockerbie?

A Member of the UK Parliament has said that the evidence in the Lockerbie Bomb case was planted by the CIA.

The Member of Parliament did his own investigation and discovered to his satisfaction that "the [timing] device was a C.I.A. plant."

8. What about Gaddafi?

Gaddafi's daughter was murdered by US bombs.

Victor Ostrovsky, a Mossad defector, revealed that the bombing took place as a result of faked intelligence and that Gaddafi was set up by Israel in Operation Trojan.

According to Ostrovsky, a "radio transmitter smuggled into Tripoli by the Mossad, broadcast messages designed to fool the United States into thinking Libya was about to launch a massive terror attack on the West."

Gaddafi provided the African National Congress and Nelson Mandela the means to defeat apartheid in South Africa.

9. The Libyan Rebels

The National Front for the Salvation of Libya held its most recent meeting in the United States in July 2007.

Cars ... are affordable for every family. ...

In February, the peaceful life of the people was violated by gangs of criminals and insane drugged youth – whom the Western media for some reason called “peaceful demonstrators”...

We understand that when all the foreigners leave and no one will tell the truth (the small staff of diplomatic missions have long been silenced), the Americans will arrange here a bloodbath.

NOVEMBER 2010 WAR GAME PLANS PRECEDED LIBYA ATTACK

On 27 March 2011, Democratic congressman Dennis J Kucinich wrote about war games and Libya (Libya's struggle ...):

According to Kucinich:

1. On 2 November 2010 France and Great Britain signed a mutual defence treaty.

This was to lead to "Southern Mistral" (http://www.southern-mistral.cdaoa.fr/), a series of war games.

Southern Mistral involved an air attack, called Southern Storm, against a dictatorship in a fictitious southern country called Southland.

The joint military air strike was authorised by a pretend United Nations Security Council Resolution.

The "Composite Air Operations" were planned for the period of 21-25 March, 2011.

2. On 20 March, 2011, the USA joined France and Great Britain in an air attack on Libya.

3. Are the war games Operation Odyssey Dawn?

4. Were the Libyan opposition told about the existence of Southern Mistral/Southern Storm?

This could have encouraged them to violence?

5. Libya was attacked, we have been told, because Gaddafi allegedly had killed 6,000 of his own people.

But is this true?

It sounds like Iraq: "Saddam was killing his own people, will kill his people, or will kill us if we don"t get him first."

The Iraq war begins its ninth year.

The cost is in excess of $3 trillion.

The intelligence making the case for the war was "sexed up".

US CONTROL OF THE MEDITERRANEAN

2. The Mediterranean is to be part of the the US empire.

"The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) with the U.S. at the head had [in 2006] carried out a large-scale military exercise in Cape Verde, a western African island nation, with the sole purpose of controlling the sea and air corridors of crude oil extracting zones and monitoring how the situation is with oil pipelines operating there.

"[A]frica Command represents a vital, crucial link for the US adjustment of its global military deployment. At present, it is moving the gravity of its forces in Europe eastward and opening new bases in Eastern Europe.

"The present US global military redeployment centers mainly on an ‘arc of instability’ from the Caucasus, Central and Southern Asia down to the Korean Peninsula, and so the African continent is taken as a strong point to prop up the US global strategy.

"Therefore, AFRICOM facilitates the United States advancing on the African continent, taking control of the Eurasian continent and proceeding to take the helm of the entire globe."

CIA USING AL QAEDA TO TOPPLE ARAB LEADERS

It looks as if the CIA, and members of the wealthy Arab elite, are using al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood to topple Arab rulers who are out of favour.

On 1 March 2011, in New America Media, Yoichi Shimatsu wrote "Mideast Revolutions and 9-11 Intrigues Created in Qatar."

The protestors in North Africa and the Middle East are being manipulated by the right-wing Arab elite.

This elite has been backing people like al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood.

"Credible U.S. intelligence reports have cited evidence pointing to Qatar's long-running support for the Muslim Brotherhood, Al Qaeda and jihadist fighters returning from Afghanistan."

In Libya, the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), which is friends with Al Qaeda, has seized armouries containing high-power explosives, rocket launchers and chemical weapons.

Al Jazeera let slip that the earliest Libyan protests were organized by the LIFG.

150 of Gaddafi's soldiers were reportedly "gunned down by war-hardened returned militants from Iraq and Afghanistan...."

Qatar - home to al Qaeda

According to the 9/11 Commission Report, Qatar's Interior Minister provided a safe haven to 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed during the mid-1990s.

Press reports show other 'terrorists' may have received financial support or safe haven in Qatar after September 11, 2001.

The national security chief, Interior Minister Abdullah bin Khalid al-Thani, is mentioned as paying for a 1995 trip by Khalid Shaikh Mohammed ‘to join the Bosnia jihad.'

1. Gaddafi has long faced threats to his life from Mossad, the Saudis, MI6, and various Libyan groups trained by the US and Israel.

2. Israel and the US have trained anti-Libyan rebels in a number of African countries, including Chad.

3. In 1985, the US asked Egypt to invade Libya and overthrow Gadafi but President Mubarak refused.

4. The FNSL (National Front for the Salvation of Libya) held its national congress in the USA in July 2007.

5. The LIFG (Libyan Islamic Fighting Group) was founded in 1995 by a group of mujahideen veterans who had fought in Afghanistan.

LIFG's Abdulwahab Mohammed Kayed is the brother of Abu Yahya Al Libi, one of al Qaeda's top propagandists.

LIFG's failed attempt to assassinate Qadhafi in February 1996 was said to have been financed by MI6.

According to one report, LIFG received up to $50,000 from al Qaeda's leader for each of its militants killed on the battlefield.

6. After the toppling of Mubarak, Egypt's military began shipping arms over the border to Libyan rebels.

There were hundreds of thousands of Egyptian labourers in Libya.
