Heroin makes Lou Reed feel like Jesus, and it won't leave Guns N' Roses alone, but how does it end up here in the United States? We take a look at the global opium trade from the poppy fields of Afghanistan to a shady street corner near you.

So please tell me again: What's the war about?

William Blum

When facts are inconvenient, when international law, human rights and history get in the way, when war crimes can't easily be justified or explained away, when logic doesn't help much, the current crop of American political leaders turns to what is now the old reliable: 9/11. We have to fight in Afghanistan because ... somehow ... it's tied into what happened on September 11, 2001. Here's Vice-President Joe Biden: "We know that it was from the space that joins Afghanistan and Pakistan that the attacks of 9/11 occurred."

Beware of Judaism

Someday, the Bible teaches, a remnant of Jews out of the Great Tribulation will believe on the One their fathers crucified. Yet for the present, the church must heed Christ's warning to "Beware of the leaven (teaching) of the Pharisees." Matt. 16:6. In other words: Beware of Judaism. Paul also warns the church, referring to unbelieving Jews as "enemies" (Rom. 11:28) "...who both killed the Lord Jesus and prophets, and drove us out. They are not pleasing to God, but hostile to all men." I Thess. 2:15

The growing debate over the Jews' place in America, which is escalating in light of experts' statements that the US military knows that the Israeli MOSSAD blew up the World Trade Center on 9/11 , is increasingly playing out on city streets across the country. Ads by a group calling itself Break the Jewish Stranglehold on America, which aims to provide a refuge for former Jews, read: "Doubting the Holy-caust? Like Palestinians OK? Is your family or community threatening you? Tired of being a Jew? GoyByChoice.com - Google 'David Cole .'"

Isolating Iran is part of the 'great energy game': Antony Loewenstein

Posted: 06 Aug 2010 12:39 AM PDT

The Middle East is witness to continuous developments these days, such as Iran's active diplomacy to attract the indispensable 118-member bloc of non-aligned countries to support its nuclear program, the growing isolation of Israel in European countries and within academic circles in the U.S., Arabs' fears of losing the power game in the Persian Gulf region, and the expansion of illegal settlements of Israel in the West Bank and its unremitting disobedience to United Nations Security Council resolutions.

Such developments have turned the Middle East into the center of international attention. Iran, as the Persian Gulf region's only non-Arab nation, Israel, as the world's sole Jewish state, and a host of fragile Arab countries, who are being immersed in the waves of the West's economic turmoil, find their destiny intertwined, with each party trying to surmount the other. All this makes for an interesting, yet worrying, rivalry in the Middle East.
