Coca-Cola+Maroon 5 Crowd-Sourcing

Yesterday Coca-Cola teamed up with US pop-rockers Maroon 5 in an ambitious piece of crowd-sourcing. By inviting fans to collaborate with the band in the writing and recording process of a new track over a 24 hour period (all streamed live from the studio). The event is by Facebook invite only and at the time of writing just over 6000 people had signed up. This seems like a lot of cooks to spoil the broth but then when one considers that the company sent out 23million invites the take up does seem a little anaemic. Personally, I think with the world in it's current state of socio-politcal flux we need a new Maroon 5 tune like a fucking hole in the head, but then i don't head up the social-media outreach program of a multi-national company, so there you go.

Billed as "the biggest experiment in rock history" the company says that all the tracks content from rhythms to lyrics "will be inspired by you the fan". The proof shall no doubt be in the musical pudding but does seem like an original piece of branded crowd-sourcing. Even if crowd-sourcing does seem a little old hat and Maroon 5 a curious choice.
