Bill Clinton hints at desire to see anti-government speech restricted

Posted: 20 Apr 2010 10:22 PM PDT

Political elites, especially among the liberals, are beginning to be quite worried about the White rage they see all around them. A good indication of the hysteria is that Joe Klein of TIME wants Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin indicted for inciting sedition, and John Heilemann of New York magazine adds Rush Limbaugh to the list.

Bill Clinton is doing his part. In an interview with CNN pundit and former AIPAC lobbyist Wolf Blitzer, Clinton was not shy about expressing his dislike of the Tea Parties, and he hinted at his desire for tougher speech restrictions. Referring to the Oklahoma City bombing, Blitzer said "the hatred that Timothy McVeigh … had … there are plenty of people like that right now" — to which Clinton replied "lot's of them." Blitzer said that there were many websites advocating "hate" and Clinton replied with silly platitudes about how the Internet can be used to learn how to make a bomb. The former president added that "websites are easily accessible and you can be highly selective and spend all of your time with people that are, you know, kind of out there with you" (emphasis mine).

mark glennThe fog it produced in my head was so thick you could cut it with a knife, to the point that the only thing coming to mind as I read it was that line from the book of Jeremiah, where–right before being stoned to death for refusing to bow down and kiss their holier-than-thou asses as they have always demanded (and even from God Himself)–the self-hating Jew instead calls a spade a spade in terms of his fellow countrymen and their behavior with–

"…The leaders dress the wound of Israel as though it were not serious, and yet, are the people of Israel ashamed of their loathsome conduct? No, they have no shame at all…They do not even know how to blush…"

The Lesson of Carl Schmitt, Part 2

Posted: 20 Apr 2010 09:00 PM PDT

Schmitt does not believe in the disappearance of the political. Any type of activity can take on a political dimension. The political is a fundamental concept of collective anthropology. As such, political activity can be described as substantial, essential, enduring through time. The state, on the other hand, enjoys only conditional authority, i.e., a contingent form of sovereignty. Thus the state can disappear or be depoliticized by being deprived of the political, but the political—as substantial—does not disappear.

Is the Derogation of Calvary and the Ascendance of Auschwitz "your fight"?

If you have been privy to the reasons Bishop Richard Williamson's Catholic SSPX order has dismissed him as seminary rector, exiled him to London, placed him under a gag order and refused to offer public prayers for his welfare, then you know they have been saying it is because the "Holocaust is not our fight."

The Arabs, Weak by Choice

Posted: 20 Apr 2010 04:55 PM PDT

Nation-states living in the area from Morocco to Iraq including the Arabian Peninsula share a distinct culture and history, and speak Arabic, albeit with hundreds of dialects. Arab nationalism is "ingrained in the soul of Arab individuals based on the sentiments of a glorious past", but Arab unity today is needed to deal with challenges posed by the twenty-first century Orientalism. European colonialists divided the region, planted the State of Israel, drew the borders and supported its ruling regimes after stripping them of their Arab legitimacy in favor of tribal and local nationalism; and the region remains hostage to its imperialist past. Each state within this region has developed its own realities, laws, culture and history that have grown over the years, and developed its own interests which in many cases are not shared by others. The establishment of a strong union of these nations that can defend their interests against the big bullies of the world, similar to the European Union, can never be taken seriously under the present regimes whose policies cast doubts on their legitimacy. The history of the Arab League since its inception suggests the Arab regimes chose to be weak and irrelevant.

How's That Appeasement Working Out?

Posted: 20 Apr 2010 04:00 PM PDT

The international community has rendered its judgment on the elections just completed in Sudan -- and it's painstakingly mild and conscientiously balanced. The European Union noted "important deficiencies against international standards," but nevertheless deemed them a "crucial" step toward national reconciliation. Major donors Britain, Norway, and the United States, known as the Sudan Troika, likewise took "note" of "initial assessments ... including the judgment that the elections failed to meet international standards." The Carter Center commended the "increased political and civic participation" surrounding the ballot.
