Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has unveiled a native sonar-evading vessel dubbed Ya Mahdi in the initial phase of a new Persian Gulf military drill.

"The domestically-made vessel that carries rockets with powerful destructive capability shows Iran's determined military strength in establishing security in the Persian Gulf," IRGC's naval commander Ali Reza Tang-siri said Thursday on the first day of the three-day military drill code-named 'The Great Prophet 5'.

S. Korea ship torpedoed by North?

South Korea's military intelligence has announced in a report that a North Korean submarine launched a torpedo attack on a South Korean warship last month.

The report, which was sent to the office of President Lee Myung-Bak and the defense ministry office immediately after the incident, suggested that North Korean submarines attacked the ship with a heavy torpedo.

Airspace throughout northern and central Europe are continuing to gradually reopen following days of disruption triggered by a volcano in Iceland that spewed out huge ash clouds and endangered air travel.

But as flights resumed, some airports in northern Europe had to close again on Wednesday due to the ash cloud.

"There are still some areas where it is dangerous for planes to enter them, and that will be prohibited, but they are very much smaller," Andrew Haines, chief executive of the Civil Aviation Authority, told Sky News.

Ancient study center found in India

Archaeologists have unearthed the remains of a 2,000-year-old Buddhist study center in a village located in the Nalanda district of India's eastern Bihar state.

The Bulandi mound excavations yielded a 34-meter-long prayer hall, residential cells, Buddha images, a black terracotta seal, pottery and a stone plaque.

Iran rejects building missile to hit US

Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi has rejected reports that Iran is planning to build ballistic missiles capable of striking the US within five years.

Pakistan refugees running out of aid

NATO admits killing 4 Afghan civilians

NATO has acknowledged that the US-led forces in Afghanistan have killed four civilians in the war-torn country's southeastern province of Khost.

The alliance had earlier had claimed that two militants were killed when foreign troops opened fire on a car in Khost Province on late Monday.

An agreement between Kiev and Moscow gives Russia prolonged access to naval bases on the Crimea peninsula in the Black Sea and offers Ukraine a discount on Russian gas.

The landmark deal came on Wednesday as visiting Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Victor Yanukovich in northeastern city of Kharkiv agreed to offer Kiev Russian gas at a discount.

If one were to believe the almost breathless reports coming from the Israeli, US and other corporate media, a major ruction in US-Israeli dealings had occurred and the demise of their "special relationship" was imminent. According to the media, this was triggered by the announcement on March 9, by Israel's interior minister, Eli Yishai, that Israel would build 1600 new Jewish-only homes on occupied Palestinian land. The announcement was made just as US Vice-President Joe Biden began a four-day "good will" tour of Israel.

Saudis ban teacher from Mashhad visit

Muhammad Baqer al-Sharfa and his family were informed that a travel ban has been imposed on them at the King Fahd International Airport in eastern city of Dammam — located approximately 400 km (248 miles) away from the capital, Riyadh.

Bosnian veterans clash with police

Bosnian police have fired tear gas and water at a group of war veterans in Sarajevo after clashes broke out at a protest against proposed state benefit cuts.

The rally of around 5,000 veterans from the 1992-95 war descended into violence as protesters attempted to storm a government building, throwning stone blocks, bottles and setting a cabin on fire.

French president backs veil ban

Nicolas Sarkozy, the French president, has spoken out in favour of a full ban on the face-covering veil as the government draws up a law to prohibit the garment in public spaces.

Planes return to Europe skies

Airspace throughout northern and central Europe are continuing to gradually reopen following days of disruption after a volcanic eruption in Iceland that spewed out huge ash clouds and endangered air travel.

But as flights resumed, some airports in northern Europe had to close again on Wednesday due to the ash cloud.

"There are still some areas where it is dangerous for planes to enter them, and that will be prohibited, but they are very much smaller," Andrew Haines, chief executive of the Civil Aviation Authority, told Sky News.

Is Facebook creating a temptation generation?

Back in the late 1960s, researcher Walter Mischel conducted an experiment that has come to be known as the "Marshmallow Test."

This test consisted of giving marshmallows to 4-year-olds, with the promise of more marshmallows to come if they could delay eating the first for 15 minutes. Those who resisted the sugary treat were shown to do well later in life, while those who failed to resist were more likely to suffer from lower test scores, even issues of drug dependency.

WikiLeaks claims Facebook deleted its page, 30,000 fans

wikileaksAccording to the WikiLeaks Twitter account,  the website had more than 30,000 fans at the time it was deleted.

The accompanying note read the page had been disabled because it "promotes illegal acts".

However, another page claiming to be the official WikiLeaks page remains on Facebook, with some 500+ fans.

Cops Link White Supremacists to Bombs in California

naziPolice raided the Southern California homes of dozens of white supremacists on April 20, according to the Associated Press. Federal and local officers converged on 35 homes and took 16 people into custody in Riverside County in connection with an investigation into deadly booby trap attacks targeting police officers.

None of the arrests were directly related to the alleged attacks that have plagued the small Hemet Police Department since New Year's Eve, but police believe the arrests will lead to suspects, according to Hemet, California, police Captain Dave Brown.
