At least five police officers and a government official have been killed in a series of explosions that rocked the southwestern Afghan province of Nimroz.

The blasts took place in the provincial capital, Zaranj, on Wednesday. Five other police officers have been injured.

Archeologists excavating a temple near the city of Alexandria have found a headless 2,000-year-old granite statue belonging to a Ptolemaic-era king.

The Egyptian-Dominican team unearthed the statue at the temple of Taposiris Magna, west of Alexandria, which was the center of the Greek-speaking Ptolemaic Dynasty for 300 years.
