Former chief United Nations weapons inspector Scott Ritter says the US policy of "regime change" in pre-war Iraq hampered efforts by the UN to find a diplomatic solution to the case.

Ritter, who served as the chief UN weapons inspector from 1991 to 1998 in Iraq, said that the main reason that Baghdad did not cooperate with his team in resolving the nuclear issue was the fact that the US pursued a policy of regime change towards the country.
