Dmitry Medvedev, Russia's president, has met his Turkish counterpart for talks aimed at sealing a series of bilateral deals, including a possible controversial plan to build Turkey's first nuclear power plant.

Medvedev met Abdullah Gul on Wednesday in Ankara, the Turkish capital, where they were expected to oversee the signing of agreements designed to boost cooperation in energy and tourism between the two nations.

The chemical tanker MV Panega was seized about 100 nautical miles (185 kms) east of the Yemeni port of Aden on Tuesday, EU Navfor said in a statement.

Thai threat to choke off red shirts

On Tuesday, a non-deadly bombing rocked the south Baghdad neighborhood of Dora, attracting the law enforcement agents, who were killed and injured when a second bomb was detonated, AFP reported.

Leigh Day and Co., who represented more than 30,000 victims that fell ill from toxic waste dumped by Trafigura's contractors, Probo Koala, have claimed that its firm took the risk of paying out millions to fight the case and were entitled to the success fee. Part of the £105 million includes £40 million for conditional fee agreements, which enabled the lawyers to work for claimants that could not afford the legal costs.

Settlers Storm Silwan Town In East Jerusalem

Dozens of Israeli settlers and hardliner Jewish supporters marched into the Palestinian town of Silwan on Tuesday in support of a settlement there.

Israeli troops closed off streets leading to Bit Yonan settlement built illegal in the town and allowed only settlers and their supporters to use it. Settlers marched chanting anti Palestinian and Arab songs and carried Israeli flags, residents reported.

Brown steps down for new coalition

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced Monday that he will step down to allow for Labor Party talks on a coalition government with the Liberal Democrats.

Brown's announcement came in response to growing concerns in the Labor Party that a Liberal Democrat-Conservative pact was gaining ground.
