Emma Watson drops out of Brown University

I just can’t help to think Brown University was nothing but a playground or summer camp for Emma. Out of all the statements of desiring normalcy and wanting anonymity the girl had a funny way of showing it. She never could stay away or quit talking about her experience. I believe Brown served two purposes for her. The first one was to adhere to the claim the only reason she signed on for the last installments of Potter was so Warner Brothers would make it possible for her to attend university. The other was to go to the states so she could reinvent herself for the UK. She’d be out of site and out of mind for the most part. I don’t think she was getting any offers to act. I do not believe she held in the same regard within the industry.

I think out of all the talk about education being important to her it was just PR spin because she was not getting any interest within the industry. She looks like this humbled and modest celebrity that’s down to earth but in all actuality she’s struggling to move past Hermione and Potter. I think it’s partly due to this DIVA attitude no one dares speak of or even give it a honest thought. I think spanish rocker RAFAEL CEBRIAN helped to keep her there for an entire year. That and she has friends in NYC where she traveled to constantly. It all kind of worked out for her. Why else would she claim education is important to her and then gives it up for a small part in My week with Marilyn where she missed a month of school and dropped out later for Lancome?

SO BEGINS THE MONTAGE OF QUOTES. TRY TO KEEP UP AND PAY ATTENTION TO THE DATES AND YOU'LL NOTICE WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT.
From lovelyemmawatson.com March 2007 According to co-star Rupert Grint, who plays Harry's other best friend Ron Weasley, Emma is “tired of being known as 'that girl from Harry Potter'”. (emma held out from signing. She said education reason but she ended up getting more money) From cbsnews.com  Nov 29th 2010 "I love learning. I'm just addicted to knowledge. It just like, makes me happy. It keeps me motivated," she said in an interview while promoting her latest film, the first installment of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." Education, she continued, "Is a vital part of life."
Here is some University talk from start to finish with Emma Watson. Reading some of this she strikes me as a news reporter in a war zone or a queen amongst her people. See if you can point out some contradictions. When I read this my head spins.
From exposay.com  July 2nd 2007 The young actress threatened to quit the Harry Potter series but was allegedly lured back with a $4 million contract to keep playing Hermione for the full seven films.  She said: "It was more about juggling my A-level exams, going to university and doing the movies." From people.com Dec 17th 2007 Watson is trying to branch out as an actress, and is appearing in a TV movie, Ballet Shoes, in the U.K. But she is also applying to Cambridge University, to give herself some options. She explains: "I feel it's terribly important to continue with my education, in case acting doesn't work out for me."
From “Teen Vogue” interview sawfnews.com  June 23rd 2009 Now, poised to enter college to study English Literature and art, she isn't sure acting excites her to the same extent any more. "There's not, like, a burning passion in me," she admits, "that I have to act and I don't care what I do. Until something comes along that I feel as strongly about as I did Hermione—like, I felt that it was life or death—I don't want to act again." From dailymail.co.uk June 29th 2009 ‘I’m so excited. Living in London, it’s hard to be anonymous,' she told Elle magazine. 'But hopefully, on some campus somewhere, I’ll fade into the background a bit.' (Media reports are right. Its emma talking out of both sides of her mouth)
From pastemagazine.com July 14th 2009 Paste: You are off to University in the autumn. Watson: I am—to Brown, which is an Ivy League establishment in the U.S.A. I’ve got a place there to read literature. (She ended up changing to History major) Paste: And was that also an equally deliberate choice, to step out of the limelight for a while? Watson: It’s not so much that, no, I’m not trying to hide or anything like that. It sounds so geeky, but I really do like studying and reading, and if I’m not working on Harry Potter, then my greatest relaxation is to sit with a book. That’s how I escape stress—in literature. I always have several books on the go at any one moment, so it’s no good you asking “What’s on the bedside table at the moment, Emma?” because often I can’t even see the table! I think that all that reading is just about the only similarity I have with Hermione, if you ask me. (She loves to compare herself to hermione for postive reason but yet she got a pixie cut because her hair made her Hermione. Really it was for teh role in the Girl with the Dragon tattoo Paste: And studying will mean that a film career is put on the back burner for a while? Watson: Not entirely, no, there are end of term breaks where I could do something if someone asks me, and I liked the idea. It all depends, doesn’t it? Acting and studying are in no way mutually exclusive, are they? Going there will mean a bit of “normality” for a while. It certainly doesn’t mean that I will never act again, that’s not true. There’s been a lot of confusion in the media about that, and most of it is ill informed—I seem to have managed pretty well up to this point! (remember that she says the media is misinformed)
From mtv.com/news July 16th 2009 "I am [going to university this fall] — to Brown, which is an Ivy League establishment in the U.S.A.," she told Paste magazine. "I've got a place there to read literature. "If it was something I really wanted to do, then I wouldn't say no. But at the same time I've been working solidly since I was like 10 ... so I'm going to take a bit of break," she said From browndailyherald.com July 19th 2009 "I'll be doing bits and bobs at Christmas, but September feels like my cut-off point, when I'll really stop," she told Elle U.K. As long as there are no Harry Potter posters on the wall, I will be fine and happy," she told People. From entertainment.msn July 23rd 2009 Rumors are buzzing about a number of schools in the UK and the US, but Emma won't reveal where she'll be studying. “I just want to keep it private for as long as I can," she admits to Teen Vogue. "I probably sound like a paranoid nut, but I'm doing this because I want to be normal. I really want anonymity." (Well you already spilled the beans of where and what you'll be doing) From http://www.iheartwatson.net/quotes/page/11/ Paste Magazine 2009 “That’s inevitable [being recognised on campus], I suppose, some of them must have seen the films over the years. But I do hope that it will be only a short time before I am known as ‘Emma Watson, the student from the U.K.’ rather than ‘Emma Watson who starred in those Harry Potter films.’”
AFTER SHE ARRIVED AT BROWN
From people.com September 11th, 2009 Emma posted on her official website, “I’ve finally arrived at Brown University and I am excited to be here. I’ve already met so many incredible people. I just can’t wait for classes to start!” She has shut down rumor she had arrived via helicopter to the campus. (So this is keeping it private?)
But she still could give the paparazzi the dirty look for interrupting her privacy while at Brown orientation. There are other photos of her scowling at them but really how can you blame them? She's inviting them and for starters she is a celebrity. I understand that but it's not like she kept all this private. Chalk this up to DIVA?

emma watson university pics

She wasn't even there for a few weeks and she just "HAD" to jet set back to london for LONDON FASHION WEEK where she talked about Brown (that's not doing it right or keeping things private. That's not living normal)
From fashion.telegraph.co.uk  Feb 1st 2010 "I'm going to be there for four years(college) but I'm not planning to disappear. I'm auditioning for a play, Chekhov's Three Sisters (Brown University play) , and I'm still reading scripts. Where I'll be in ten years' time, I really have no idea. I am on the brink of making some big decisions." (This was about the time her name came up for Girl with the Dragon Tatoo and Perks of Being a Wallflower)
But she just had to go to the LONDON SHOW ROOMS PARTY March 27th 2010. And then she just had to go to the MET BALL IN NYC May 3rd 2010. She also just "HAD" to do a spring 2010 VANITY FAIR where she kept on taling about Brown. She "HAD" to do many things like this while stating she wanted normalcy.
From huffingtonpost.COM  May 5th 2010 (Vanity fair magazine cover shoot and interview) "It was just awful," she recalls thinking at first, during freshman week. "I was like, I must be mad. Why am I doing this?" And what was with all the party-hearty stuff? She nervously attended her first frat party, hoping she might get into the swing of things. "I felt like I'd walked into an American teen movie. I picked up the red cups. I was like, Wow, they really do drink from these." (More talking about Brown when she wants to keep it private) From www.vanityfair.com  June 10th (Vanity Fair magazine cover shoot and interview) “I was scared before I came to Brown—that I wasn't going to be allowed to have both [a career and a normal life]. People would think that I didn't deserve to have both. [I was afraid they'd think], You're famous. You're given free handbags. (Yeah they are jealous of your free handbags, lol) Why should you deserve to be normal?” (See she wants to have her fame when she wants and left alone from all the annoyances that come with it. Diva!)
From potterincantatem.com October 2010 (cinemania magazine) What about your college life? "To leave my home was a shock. I didn’t know anyone and it was hard, but it was worthwhile because I had an incredible time and made new friends. I’m very excited to start my sophmore year with the knowledge I have now. Obviously I went for the academic part but I want to live like everyone else too, share a room, a bathroom." (she knew spanish rocker rafael Cebrian real well because they met at RADA years ago) From azcentral.com  October 18th 2010 (Mexico’s seventeen magazine She said: "I need to have more fun, like anyone my age! I'm always working, I'm addicted to work. My head needs to rest."I don't have an ordinary day because I'm trapped between two different lives. One day I'm filming, the next I'm off to college, the next day I'm home, and then I'm designing clothes. There are no typical days for me." (That's your fault. You can't stay away enough to have your normalcy and privacy. You won't stop talking about Brown publically. How much you work was your choice)  From iheartwatson.net Nov 2010 (from emmawatson.com) “This has been so misrepresented in the press! Basically, I’ve always been very upfront in stating that my education is of equal importance as my acting career. I had to think very carefully before committing to the last film as I wasn’t sure how I was going to do it justice while at the same time balancing life at university. However, Warner Bros have been really brilliant and we managed to work out a schedule which enables me to do both. It was never a case of not wanting to do the film(s), just making sure that if I committed to doing them, it wouldn’t be at the cost of either Harry Potter or my education.”But then she just “HAD” to miss over a month of school at brown to film a supportive small role in MY WEEK WITH MARILYN which coincided with the deathly hallows premiere thereafter keeping her away longer.

The only reason Emma Watson has become larger that the Harry Potter series is because of Emma Watson. She has put herself out there way more than any of her castmates with Burberry and later Lancome and other none related magazine interviews centered around her life and not her work. Remember Emma claims to be a private person.

From perezhilton.com Jan 5th 2011 "My mom would love me to go on Strictly Come Dancing. The reality show thing isn't me though. I'm a very private person." - Emma Watson, on reality television, to The Sun. From ctv.ca November 4th 2010 The British beauty is now studying at America's Brown University and is delighted to be treated just like any other student. She told America's Marie Claire magazine: "The first year at Brown was about finding my feet. I found a great group of girlfriends, and now that I know how things work and what the professors expect, I'm really excited about going back for my second year, because I feel this time I can relax and enjoy it. From thehollywoodgossip.com  November 5th 2010 She told Marie Claire magazine, “Brown has a real sense of community, and people are very protective of me. They really look out for me; they want me to feel like I’m part of it. I threw my 20th birthday party at Brown, and I didn’t even have to say to anyone not to put pictures on Facebook. Not a single picture went up. That was when I knew I’d found a solid group of friends, and I felt like I belongedFrom hotmommagossip.com October 2010 "Harry Potter star Emma Watson who was just voted Britain’s best dressed female in a survey conducted by Glamour magazine, has signed on for a role in “My Week With Marilyn,” (she started filming a few weeks after this report)
From aceshowbiz.com  November 5th 2010 She tells U.S. magazine Parade, "I get some amazing offers to act, and sometimes it's hard to say, 'No, I'm going to stay here and do my homework.' People are like, 'What do you mean she's not available?' This college experience is really important to me, and I won't give it up. Here, no one tells me what time I can have lunch, when I can go to the bathroom. It's incredibly empowering and liberating. My friends think I'm crazy because I get so much joy out of really simple pleasures like staying up late talking or deciding to go for a walk." From teenhollywood.com  Nov 17th 2010 TeenHollywood: Why did you choose the states over an English education? Emma: For a number of reasons. A friend of mine (I'm guessing spanish rocker Rafael Cebrian) went to the University in the states and when he was telling me that he was able to study more than one subject at a time and it was much more open and broad, that really appealed to me and also, I’m much more anonymous in the states. I needed a change and a fresh start where I felt like I could go and really reinvent myself. That’s what Brown has been for me. (So now the states it's about re-inventing herself? She has done that with the pixie cut and her proclaimed desire to take risks and be more naughty) From community.livejournal.com  June 2007 How do people react when they see you on the street in London? Do they scream, do they touch you? "People in the UK are very respectful. Americans tend to scream, to clap, to make a big deal about it, and it can be embarrassing." (So how did that change in two years?)
EMMA'S OFFICAL FACEBOOK PAGE
Emma Watson Emma Watson Sorry for long absence from here - so much to do and so little time to do it in before I go back to school! Hope you're all ok x January 17 at 7:50am (this wall post had since been removed from her page. It's the only one she ever removed)

Emma WatsonEmma Watson Hi everyone, I just wanted to let you know that the rumours are true - I'm going to be playing Sam in "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" opposite Logan Lerman. Love Em xx February 10 at 10:25am

SHE NEVER WENT TO BROWN FOR JANUARY 26TH 2011 TO START THE FALL TERM

After all this positve press and spin for how great Brown is and how she belongs and would not give it up for anything, here she is giving it up for apparently acting. No one will ever know but the above facebook post have to make you scratch your head as to what altered the course? Perks, Incarcion, Lancome and Harvey Weinstein? My opinion is she was nto high up on education and isn;t it funny she quit school a soon as it was official filming for Potter was over?
From perezhilton.com  Feb 24 TH 2011 "Sources are reporting that Dakota Fanning and Emma Watson may both be enrolling in NYU's Gallatin School of Individualized Study in the fall. Last spring, Dakota took some time off from skulking around as a vampire to check out the school. Now, sources say she's received an early acceptance into the program and is expected to enroll."
At Heathrow coming back from the states after her visit to the Gallatin school not looking too happy because the paparrazi are there.

Picture below from newyork.nearsay.com Feb 23rd 2010 outside of said school above which is for rich celebrities that fit with their schedule but still no mention on Jan 17th on her facebook. She made it seem she was getting ready to head back to Brown. It's funny how through all the recent Bafta events a week before she went to check out this school the British press did not press her on why she is not at Brown

NearSighting: Emma Watson and Dakota Fanning Tour NYU - West Village & Greenwich Village - Arts & Culture - NYC

From emmawatson.com March 3rd 2011 (her offical website) Hi everyone, As you know, I love Brown and I love studying pretty much more than anything but recently I've had so much to juggle that being a student AND fulfilling my other commitments has become a little impossible. I've decided to take a bit of time off to completely finish my work on Harry Potter (the last one comes out this summer) (umm the filming is done and all you have is the primieres? You did that while at Brown with Deathly Hallows) and to focus on my other professional and acting projects. I will still be working towards my degree... it’s just going to take me a semester or two longer than I thought : ) From bbc.co.uk/news April 30th, 2011 In the frequently asked questions section of her website, the first question is "why did you chose Brown University over a British one?" Her undated answer is: "I was seriously torn as to whether to stay in the UK or go to the States as let's face it the UK has some of the best universities in the world. But, ultimately, I loved the course at Brown and really liked the idea of experiencing a different country and culture - and I must say I've never been happier, I absolutely love Brown."

I don't understand when she means other commitments because she's maintained consistently that college is more important. She was able to both attend Brown and promote Harry Potter. As for any other commitments that were her choice even though she has stated before Brown they'd stop. Secondly all she has done since her last term ended was go to clubs. Just the pre-Bafta parties, Bafta awards, post-Bafta parties and all what comes with the Elle Awards is what she replaced rather than attending Browns spring term. One of her claims to dropping out was to finish up promoting Potter but she never went to the DVD release of Deathly Hallows PART 1 but she has started working for LANCOME and has since starting filming Perks of being a Wallflower.

In fact she had been seen clubbing at her favorite spot at Bungalow 8, The Groucho club and Mahiki night club on a routine basis instead of being at college. She also took in the sexual risqué new London Night club, "The Box" as I describe HEREThe real reason as I see it is she dropped Brown for Lancome and PERKS. That is after all the positive spin and what I see as WHINING at times for that matter as to how she really wants to go to the university and it’s important to her and later quote as to how she is really shy, not addicted to fame or will do anything for money. It’s all rubbish and an example of her playing the fame game. The sad part is loads of American students are denied Brown but because she is an actress with bank she gets in and then pisses it all away. That spot could have gone to someone who actually wanted to be there and could benefit from it. Many other actors were able to get a degree.

You know what is her definition of work? Wearing nice clothes and smiling for the camera? How can't you fit that around college? The girl would not know real hard work if it bit her on the bum. I don’t think her heart was ever truly in the University. I think in a way she put herself in a bad spot many years earlier when she threatened to quit Harry Potter after three films. She claimed it was about going to the University but to me it just looks like it was about money. A place to reinvent herself as she said above on one of those quotes. While at Brown she raved about how wonderful it is and stated she would not give it up for anything. She said this in November 2010. Now here she is dropping out of Brown. Now she wants to make movies and I bet it's about money once again like her holding out for the final Potter movies. She was already at NYU's Gallatin School touring the facility in mid February 2011. How is that loving Brown like she stated above?

UPDATE JULY 7TH 2011, From thisislondon.co.uk jULY 7TH, 2011, "Rumours of bullying are far wide of the mark, she stresses; US students often spend their third years abroad). She is playing hard to get with casting directors and there will be no acting after she completes the US indie film, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, her first post-Potter role. "I will be focusing solely on my studies. People were very respectful at Brown of my privacy - and I just hope that will be the same at home." She hopes to live in college and may even do student drama, "if it feels right".

UPDATE JULY 9TH 2011, "From heraldsun.com.au July 9th, 2011, "Fame was never something I ever aspired to and it's not something I aspire to now really.

UPDATE JULY 12TH, 2012 From www.popsugar.com On handling her fame: "It became easier to handle once I accepted it. Once I sort of came to terms with it, definitely. I feel fortunate in it that I’ve never known, never really known what its like to have total freedom and anonymity."
