A New Song From Lights

One of the reasons I enjoy Youtube so much is because of the original music that you can hear, especially that made by people you would not be able to see otherwise. One that I stumbled across has been Lights who is a singer/songwriter who has a new record coming out fairly soon. First here's one she wrote the day before she filmed the video below and the second video is an acoustic version of a song called "I Owe You One" from her first EP.

I like this next video. It is seesm so casual, with Lights just trucking around her apartment in a beat up sweatshirt and then playing an effortless version of one of her older songs.

You can buy this song (and other songs by Lights at itunes: buy it on iTunes. Also check out her website called iamlights.com of course.

Festival Season on the Horizon

The odd bit of sunshine we have been experiencing in London has raised everyones spirits. Summer is getting closer. Summer means festivals. The lineups to summer music festivals are just being released, and there are mixed reviews over some of the acts performing. Some people are overjoyed by the acts performing, and some are perplexed. Here in the Ruby Pseudo office, our opinions differ on the matter, with varying views on the choice of lineups, conflicting timings of performances, and certain festival's appeal in general. Here are some of our thoughts...

KATE
I'm not too bothered by the Glastonbury line-up. I did it once and the line-up was amazing, but this year, it doesn't really float my boat. However, The Cure at Bestival is going to be fucking amazing...... [providing Robert Smith isn't too fat and old]. Camden Crawl is looking good, especially if Odd Future are going to play, but that gig will be packed out, and pretty much inaccessible. No harm in trying. I haven't taken much notice of all the other festival line-ups yet, it doesn't quite feel like the festival season yet.
Reading line-up is looking better and better.... but that's always a festival I do last minute, generally because of the 16 year old brats that run around pissing on peoples tents; It gets to a point and I'm like fuck it, I'm going, but if i think about it too much, then it seems like too much effort.

SHAUN
Assorted thoughts.
Odd-future at Camden Crawl is a really big coup for the organisers as are the Lemonheads
2.54, Giggs, Mazes, Hudson Mowhawke and Fiction would be the one’s I would seek out given that you can’t fucking move at Camden Crawl.
I think Saturday night on the main stage at Glasto could be shaping up as one of the wettest, whitest and worse musical experiences in living memory; bringing together as it does Paulo Nuttini, followed by (the unfathomably lauded) Elbow and “climaxing” with Coldplay. Dire.
However, I’m certainly no hater and it is still unquestionably the best line-up of music on the planet. I think Beyonce is a brilliant shout, as are QOTSA (although them being on at the same time is a necessary evil). The thing I don’t get with Glasto is how they do their listings. I get it that bands can only play (owing to availability) certain days or times but how the Horrors aren’t worthy of a place higher up the bill lord only knows.
This clashing thing is completely and utterly necessary. I really don’t know how else you’d do it. They need to be opposed in style. If they had for example Jay-Z on one stage and Snoop on the other that would be a legitimate complaint but they don’t. Because the festival is a festival and not just a collection of gigs a consistency of partying and gig going needs to be reached. You can’t have massive acts on in the afternoon because it wouldn’t be the context in which they deserve to be seen.

ANNIE
Above all I am looking forward to going to Bestival. I had an amazing time last year and the line up this year is INSANE. I can’t believe that I am going to get the chance to see The Cure as well as The Maccabees, Kelis, James Blake, Norman Jay and of course The Village People. Aiming to be a little more prepared this year, sleeping four girls in a one man tent last year was not the brightest of ideas.
I haven’t got a ticket for Glastonbury though most of my friends have, if someone wanted to buy me one then I would happily go but I am not going to cry about the fact that I didn’t get one. Its a long festival so therefore (mainly because of my eating habits) super expensive. The line-up this year is alright but not the best. Now if Prince were headlining...
Leeds/Reading aren’t really festivals that I would consider going to, I definitely think of them as attracting a younger market. I don’t think of them as bad festivals particularly, I definitely wouldn’t group them with the likes of V but I would never consider buying a ticket. Looking at the line up for Leeds, there are definitely a few bands who I would go and see but no one that I am enthralled by.

ROSIE
I went to Wireless the other year. The Streets were on one stage and overlapped with Dizzee who was headlining, by 20 minutes. I stayed to watch The Streets, purely because they're more to my taste and more relevant to me. They were a band that changed my view of modern music at the time so it saddened me hugely when a massive amount of people left the arena mid set. Why would you do that?! Ridiculous.
Glasto: Completely agree with Shaun on the Saturday night main stage situ. Not only does it sound wet and white it sounds massively depressing and not the uplifting, which a Saturday night main stage surely should be. People I'd actually fork out a ticket for would be The Wu, Jimmy Cliff [just to hear 'The Harder They Come' live, amazing], The Streets and DJ Shadow. Not a huge amount of interest in the others though Beyonce is a good shout, Cee-lo Green is relevant and heard he's pretty good live and puts on a good show, other than that I'm not thrilled or excited by much of it.
Camden Crawl: OFWGKTA, that is all. First UK live performance. Amazing, I'd buy a ticket for the Sunday to see them and only them. That's fucking historical to be at their first UK gig. Amazing. Other than that Giggs is great, Toddla T always good fun. Oh and of course my friends band Bones who are playing, didn't know til' now. Nice.
Leeds: I would NEVER go to Leeds or Reading, the thought of it is just not my thing at all. The line-up to me is a load of bands I was into when I was 17, not interested now. Seeing The Deftones live for old times sake would be pretty sick, Madness for the novelty kind of factor and again The Streets. other than that, not excited by the list of bands at all. Soz.

TAMIKA
Definitely never been to a big ol' festival in my life. Not the most knowledgeable about these things, little ol' me.
Glastonbury: It shocked me that Beyonce was headlining. Weird, but weird in a good way. She's a performer. Big fan - will bring some unashamed jazz hands and happy commercial fun to the festival. Love the fact Janelle Monae is also there - again, amazing performer, can sing, dance and her songs are actually sick too.
Camden Crawl - Odd Future's 1st UK appearance as a collective will be nuts, especially as every man and their dog knows about them now. Their appearance will be nuts and totally overshadow everyone else there and probably start a riot. Exciting.
Leeds - I am grown-up enough to know I am not musically cultured enough to appreciate this. Woo go OFWGKTA and Muse.

NATE
I’ve never been to a festival as of yet but from looking at the camden crawl it looks like they’ve got it on lock, Hudson Mohawke, P Money, Giggs, SBTRKT and Odd Future to trump along with new comers such as GhostPoet. It looks like a very good mix of acts, don’t think I’ll go though camden’s not really my thing.
Glastonbury looks like an amazing mix a lot of the same acts from the Camden Crawl appearing as well. I love me some Big Boi, Aloe Blacc and Little Dragon. I can imagine I’d go to the east dance tent but then leave after a while because urban-pop kills me after a while. I would love to see a Mos Def but they’ve got wu tang on the list so I guess they’ll be forgiven.
I don’t know how leeds got Odd Future and Glasto didn’t, and apart from that there’s no one else who I’d care to mention.

ELLIE
Glastonbury does it for me... Beyonce is a great shout, ultimate crowd pleaser.. Love that I could go see some childhood guilty pleasures like Jimmy, as well go and support newer, more local names.. Ultimate dilemma on the stage clash's though..
Camden appeals to me, as it's local.. But other than to see to see the likes of Dels and Giggs, I'm not awfully excited..
Leeds has never appealed to me really.. yea it's got some good acts, but I don't know why you wouldn't just go to Glastonbury.

JAMIE
I am a big festival fan, and will be going to Glastonbury for the first time this year. I am very excited, but have not been overjoyed about the lineup this year. Whilst U2, Coldplay and Beyonce are certainly MEGA acts, they do not excite me one bit. I wanna hear big guitars going mental as the final act of the weekend, hence why I will not be at the Pyramid stage shaking my shapely bum to Beyonce, but at another stage moshing to Queens of The Stone Age. Why? Because thats what I love about festivals, getting drunk, getting messy and getting muddy. I don't think the headliners will bring the beast out in me. I have been trying not to look at the lineup for other festivals I know I will not be attending, as my budget dictates that Glastonbury will probably be the only festival I attend. I don't want to feel like those unfortunate souls who bought an iPad the week before the iPad 2 came out. The grass is always greener and all that shite, and I think what Glasto lacks on the main stage will be rectified on the 'other' stage. In terms of 'clashing, yeh there’s been some beasts, 2008 glastonbury had Jay-Z and Massive Attack on at the same time, in 2007, Chemical Brothers and The Who were on at the same. I was not there, but would have been torn....Massive Attack and The WHO Would have prevailed I'm sure.

NICK
I agree with Shaun, Beyonce is a good shout for Glasto as is Wu Tang, but why is Plan B up there? The entire West Holts stage line up makes me particularly excited but thats all my favorite types of music. Dance Village sounds good too.
I suppose festivals always try and attract as many people as possible by creating multiple stages with multiple themes, but of course these genres and festival goers tastes overlap. Therein lies the problem.

J*Davey - New Era Uncapped

New Era Uncapped x J*Davey from 3 Little Digs on Vimeo.

Progressive soul group J*Davey swing by the New Era flagship store in Atlanta to launch the New Era Uncapped music showcase. The show seemed to draw out quite a crowd and it makes me wonder why the New Era store in london doesn't have more music events of the same likeness.

Lady Gaga Calls In To Radio Station To Talk To Maria Aragon

It's not every day that you get a phone call from your idol but it looks like Canadian youtuber Maria Aragon was really surprised when Lady Gaga called in during Maria's interview on the radio (with HOT 103 FM). Aragon has a number of videos showcasing her tremendous singing ability on her channel rojuanearagon, actually 72 have been posted so far.

Lady Gaga is going to perform in Canada in early March and it looks like she will have Maria Aragon up on stage with her. So a big congrats to Maria.

Below is the video that Lady Gaga was talking about that caught her attention. It is Maria playing the piano and singing Gaga's "Born This Way" and the video has since gone absolutely viral and has over 7.6 MILLION views since it was posted February 17th, but that may have something to do with Perez Hilton posting it and telling Gaga about it (according to what she says in the above video).

There's a nice write-up about the story with a bunch of media pictures giving even more details at the Winnipeg Free Press website: First a tweet, now an invite.

March 3rd - Just saw a tweet from Lady Gag that said:

"http://twitpic.com/45wf98 - Myself +10 year Old Lady Maria of Winnipeg. She signed my t-shirt, she ate my heart, just like you"

Under The Radar: Jason Kertson

I was screwing around on Twitter and saw a tweet by Ray William Johnson (he's @RayWJ) who said that he just watched the following video by Jason Kertson and Ray was impressed. So I thought I would take a look for myself:

Young dude has quite the voice! He's singing You Can't Do That by the Beatles. The video was posted over a year ago and he's posted a bunch more songs to his sacrifyce4 Youtube channel.

Below you will find Kertson doing Heart Shaped Box by Nirvana.

If you liked what you heard, you can subscribe to his channel at the link above. He has uploaded 23 videos so far and Kertson's got a distinctive voice. Someone you might want to keep an eye on.

YourFavoriteMartian: Ray William Johnson Finally Posts A Video And...

Ray William Johnson just uploaded the first video to his new channel Yourfavoritemartian called "My Balls". It turns out it is a music channel (with Ray singing) and animation. If you haven't seen it yet, here is the video:

What do you think? I watched it shortly after it was uploaded and then started reading the comments. Most are highly complementary but after getting past the die-hard fans declaring it the best thing they've ever seen (high praise indeed) you notice that there are comments here and there about it being disappointing. Actually, looking at the likes/dislikes, as I write this it is 4,095 thumbs up wth 789 thumbs down. That means about 20 percent disliked the video enough to actually dislike it which is quite substantial. Will have to see what the percentage is after those who are more casual Equals 3 viewers have had a chance to see it to gauge the overall opinion.

As far as the music part of the video, it is a catchy little song and it is available on iTunes at Your Favorite Martian: My Balls if you want to download the song.

The animation is okay too, but there is better on Youtube. It does make for a humorous visual and works with the song. I will say that this video is 100 times better musically and animation-wise than the
Fred music video from last November (see Wow! Fred Figglehorn Drops An Album if you want to watch that video).

As far as Ray William Johnson passing Nigahiga as the most subscribed channel on Youtube, Ray has added a ton of new subscribers on the Yourfavoritemartian channel - he had 173,000 subs last monday and after announcing that the first video would drop he now has about 300K. After Nigahiga posted his Agents Of Secret Stuff he now has 3,157,457 subscribers. Ray's raywilliamjohnson channel where he hosts his Equals 3 show has 2,737,433 subs, so he is still closing the gap. This past week Ray once again had the channel gaining the most subscribers (47,000) while Nigahiga was farther down the list (23,000), so at this rate it will only be a matter of time before Ray overtakes Ryan Higa. Actually, if you add Ray's 2 channels together they are pretty close. I do think that neither really cares too much which one of them has "the most Youtube subscribers" and both wish the other much success.

Still, what is your take on Ray's new video?

Under The Radar: Have You Heard About LIGHTS?

One of the cool things about Youtube is that you can stumble across a channel or a person who you have had no idea was on the website at all. There are TONS of people who are having an impact musically and artistically and getting lots of subscribers just by doing their own thing. One is lights a Canadian musician who recently completed a tour (called the "Are We There Yeti") and captured a lot of footage which she has uploaded to Youtube. Take a look:

I always like seeing people on Youtube who are still at the point before betime fame finds them and in the video you see Lights interacting with some of her fans (like that part where she sneaks up on some people waiting outside and surprises one girl). Really an interesting video.

She is finding some success as she goes along, and a couple of her music videos got into the rotation on Much Music (sort of like Canada'a MTV). Make sure you check out her channel as she's uploaded a lot of music. There's also her website called iamlights.com which is a home base for fans of Lights - her fans have dubbed themselves the LIGHTSarmy and her YouTube channel will soon pass the 100,000 mark. Her website is full of info about her music and Lights' background and how she reached this point in her career.

I guess I could have added this under my "Under The Radar" section of this blog but haven't had the time to get it updated recently, but I had to point those interested in music coming from elsewhere than just the big established stars and record companies.

Here's one of her newer songs called "My Boots":

The Lonely Island With Akon: I Just Had Sex

It's about time we got something new from The Lonely Island (Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer & Jorma Taccone) and this is the first song off their 2nd album called "I Just Had Sex" and the song is also carrying that name.

The video features Akon, (yummy) Jessica Alba, (equally yummy) Blake Lively and (not-quite-so-yummy) John McEnroe. What do you think? Hit or miss? You can pick it up on iTunes.

"She Put A Bag On My Head!" "Still Counts!"

I don't know what they caught at the end of the video where they were shooting off fireworks, but I think both Lady Gaga and Katy Perry have the same thing - except their fireworks were from their breasts.
The Lonely Island is Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer & Jorma Taccone

Jessica And Ashlee Simpson: Little Drummer Boy

Some would knock the sisters Jessica and Ashlee Simpson lately that their fortunes were on the decline, but here we get to hear the actually sing together on one of the best Christmas carols "Little Drummer Boy".

News on Jessica Simpson is that her clothing line is starting to turn some enormous coinage. Check this headline: Jessica Simpson's Fashion Company Worth Nearly $1 Billion. Yes, Jessica is doing okay I think. Simpson Diversifies Her Billion-Dollar-Worth Collection. It won't be long before we will be saying "Did you know that billionaire Jessica Simpson started out as a singer?"

Kevjumba And Nigahiga Prove They Are Manly Enough To Shed A Tear

Yes guys, you can be a manly man and still be sensitive enough to allow your tears to fall. At least that's what Kevjumba, Nigahiga and Chestersee would have you believe after watching their music video for their song Shed A Tear available on iTunes.

If you're on Youtube for any length of time you already know who Ryan Higa (nigahiga) and Kevin Wu (kevjumba) are, but you might not be familiar with the 3rd dude in the video: Chester See. He's a talented singer/musician with over 100 videos uploaded on his channel, so check out his music over on the link given above. Here's one of his great songs you might like: God Damn You're Beautiful.

Of course, you may be thinking "If he's so talented, what's he doing with those two knuckleheads?" Well, both Kevjumba and Nigahiga are not lacking in talent themselves - The Nigahiga channel is the most subscribed channel on Youtube (Ryan's closing in on 3 million subscribers) and Kevjumba's numbers are right up there too. Both have musical videos so, if somehow you aren't subbed to either of them, go watch their videos to find out what the fuss is all about.

Under The Radar: 6 Musicians On Youtube You May Not Have Heard About

Here's another group of Youtubers who you may not know about, but probably should keep an eye on. Most have less than 50,000 subscribers, although some have 70K or so. Like many people on Youtube, I'm always looking for new music and this is a group of talented musicians. There are tons more that also deserve to be featured and I'll get to the all I promise. Well, maybe not all at once though.

Kate Laura McGill

Kate, known as katem3 on YouTube does her own songs as well as some covers. The video below is a cover of Cheryl Cole's Promise This and she also just uploaded another, Rihanna's Only Girl (In The World). You can go to her website at katemcgill.co.uk where she also has a blog (unfortunately not updated since August).

She's also going to be doing a tour of the UK and Europe in January and February 2011 with some tour dates in the U.S. during March 2011, but specifics need to be nailed down.

Where can you stalk her?

TWITTER: @katem3
FACEBOOK: facebook.com/pages/Kate-McGill
MYSPACE: myspace.com/katemcgillmusic

DJ BL3ND

Ladies and gentlemen, here comes DJ BL3ND. He now has 60K subscribers and he just added over 9,000 news subs this last month. Don't know what to make of the Chucky Doll look, but the tunage is great.

Check it over at MySpace: myspace.com/blendizzy and Facebook at facebook.com/pages/DJ-BLEND he's got 194K rabid fans on Facebook and if he turns them over to YouTube, you will be seeing him on the most viewed YouTube pages more and more. I think I'm going to have a few nightmares after watching this guy.

Dance, Lil Freakboy, Dance! lol. I know what your thinking "WTF did I just watch?" This channel is getting MASSIVE views, with almost every video he's uploaded getting over a million views each. One called Electro House 2010 (CLUB MIX) DJ BL3ND has 16 million views and climbing! Gotta admit that track's hypnotic.

Sam Koster

Straight outta Australia is Sam Koster with his band theblackyear, who have 56,885 subscribers, putting them 12th most subscribed in Australia. Their band is currently unsigned and according to Koster's channel, they formed back when he was 10 years and recorded his first album at the age of 12. What were you doing at 12? I was still working on tying my shoelaces and this guy was cutting a record? They have 3 years worth of videos on YouTube, so check them out. Also, they have some of their stuff over on iTunes: The Blaqk Year

You can stalk the band on MySpace: myspace.com/theblaqkyear

Here's the band:
Sam Koster: Songwriter, Lead Guitarist, Performer, Composer
Stephen Reinhart: Lead Guitar, Songwriter
Matt Santos: Bass Guitarist, Performer, Backing Vocals

17586063

This is a confusing channel. The music is incredible, that we can all agree on, but...

This channel (named the enigmatic 17586063), is from Japan where it is the 14th most subbed in the country, and they have 52,844 subscribers. The guitar playing will definitely blow you away.

This person just uploaded a great version of Panama a short time ago, but Youtube removed it - YOU CAN FIND IT HERE: 17586063 Doing Van Halen's Panama.

Too many conflicting thoughts... excellent guitar work. Is this a hot guitar-playing chick? Or a dude in a dress? Do those look like "man hands"? Even if this is a dude or a woman - Epic.Playing.Skills.

Jessie L

Jessie has 52,722 subs, but after hearing him, you will probably agree he should have more. His JesseGuitar07 is the 14th most subscribed in Australia and he is the 6th most subscribed musician as well. You can stalk him on Twitter @jesseguitar

His website is jesseguitar.com. he's playing a sweet version of Since We Met by Tommy Emmanuel on a Maton EBG 808 Artist. And if this isn't to your taste, he does a great electric cover of Joe Satriani's Surfing with the Alien and Michael Jackson's Beat it solo on guitar.

Shayne Orok

Shayne Orok goes by the name elshaynez and hails from Ottawa Ontario. He currently has 49,486 subs and unsigned. 18 years old and going to college in Toronto. New song called "Don't Pick Up" is available from iTunes. I liked the preview at the end of the video below - he has a somewhat unique singing style that catches your ear pretty quickly.

You can also find him over on MySpace: MYSPACE: myspace.com/shayneorok and on Twitter TWITTER: @shayneorok. Shayne can also be found on Facebook at FACEBOOK: facebook.com/pages/Shayne-Orok where his page has over 18,000 fans.

Like I said, there's a lot more where this list came from and not just musicians. The amount of talented people on Youtube is immense given the number of members the website now has and I for cannot check all of them myself, so you need to prowl around and look for others that need more exposure (not exposure like Kanye on MySpace exposure, but you get the idea).

If you know of anyone on Youtube, feel free to leave a comment below if you think they should be featured here. They don't have to be musicians, I'm always looking for great channels and interesting people.

Shane Dawson's "Straight Outta Hogwarts"

Sometimes I just dunno what to make of Shane Dawson lol. This is Shane doing a "Harry Potter" rap for the folks over at take180com (aka Electric Spoofaloo).

And, yes, that's Shane as Hermione Granger - odd that he always chooses the female roles lol. Wonder what all the little Harry Potter freaks will think about this?

Just in case you don't know, the song is based on the song Straight Outta Compton by NWA. And of course there's a "behind-the-scenes" video showing how they made this:

And, just in case you are one of the few who hasn't seen the Harry Potter video Shane made back in July 2009 with Brittani Louise Taylor. Actually, I think this was the first video I noticed Brittani in and a year later, she's got 622K subscribers and is number 37 on the Most Subscribed Chart. If you do watch the following clip, Shane's got a little bit of a potty mouth, but you already knew that.

I think that has to be just about one of my favorite Shane Dawson video of all time lol. I laugh just about every time I see the look on Ginny Weasley's (Brittani) face as she looks down in shock when Harry (Shane) drops his pants. Also I think that might have been the first time Shane mentioned his virginity in one of his videos.

DaveDays Sings Olive You On BlogTV

LOL, davedays and Sammah singing Olive You on BlogTV. This is just a short video clip.

olive you - Broadcast your self LIVE

Dave of course is referring to Kimmi Smiles who sang on the video with him (see this post: DaveDays ~ Olive You With Kimmi Smiles) but with Sammah taking Kimmi's part here.

If you want to check out some more clips of Dave on BlogTV, you can go to Dave's BlogTV channel to watch some of his other clips, but if you go there and also subscribe to his channel, you can get updates of when he has posted stuff and get notification of when he is "on the air" which is fairly frequently.

And if you want to pick up the song on iTunes, (um, the original version with Kimmi, not the one with Sammah, although if enough people demand a copy of this one, I'm sure Dave will put it on iTunes or his own website) go to Olive You to download it from iTunes.

Wow! Fred Figglehorn Drops An Album

Looks like Fred has just released his album with this song called Tater Haters leading the way. Fred was always something of a cartoon with his high-pitched voice and now he's morphed to animated mode for this video. I would really like to know what you think about this development.

In case you don't know who Fred is (you been living under a rock or what?), he is a character by Lucas Cruikshank that is a highpitched and very hyper kid who gets into many misadventures and seems to get left alone a lot. I admit I watched quite a few Fred videos when I first joined YouTube, but never subbed to his channel.

If you simply gotta have it, Fred's songs are available on iTunes and the album is called Who's Ready to Party?. Me, I think I this may be a party I'll skip, thank you very much.

The animation is okay I guess and reminds me of something that we would get from Ren and Stimpy, but even though the "Tater Haters" part is oddly catchy, I don't think this is something I will be waiting in line to purchase.

Maybe this latest development in Lucas' career will help him when he joins Nickelodeon's stable this coming spring with his own show, and maybe he is pushing this out in an effort to appeal to the pre-teen crowd (I'm hoping) because it is not something that many mainstream youtubers will likely want to watch (not that I am tapped in to the psyche of your typical YT viewer).

Yes Fred does maintain a massive following on YouTube and currently sits in 4th place on the alltime list, but he was once the most subscribed channel on YouTube not that long ago. But as he has broadened his horizons beyond the website with his Nickelodeon deal and his recent movie Fred: The Movie which was originally supposed to be a theatrical released, but premiered on Nickelodeon. The movie aired in September 2010 with a respectable 7.6 million viewers (not me).

Lucas' Fred YouTube channel continues to garner new subscribers but nothing like it generated a year or so back, while other channels on YouTube are overtaking and passing him. Many of the Fred-haters would say that is a good thing, but you have to take it for what it is. His channel gets about 4,000-5,000 new subs each week, but most of the other top channels are getting 3-4 times that number every week, which means this channel will slip down the rankings. I think he is close to his limit on what he can get as far as new subs, but there could be an even greater market of those on Nickelodeon who may not have heard of Fred and fall under his spell.

Some have grown tired of the Fred character and would be happy to see him disappear, but with a subscriber base of over 2 million, don't expect Fred to stop making videos for YouTube anytime soon - although it is next to impossible to figure out what successful YouTube partners earn, you can bet that Lucas has emassed a tidy sum that continues to provide him with more than enough to kick back and relax. I read somewhere that he easily has college taken care of (if he chooses that route) along with a nice nest egg.

Question: What is your opinion of this video?

Heathrow "Welcome Home" Ad By MobileUK

I'm a bit of a sucker for Flash mobs and unexpected singing and dancing and this video by MobilUK strikes the right note. And it was all done without using any instrument except the human voice. Awesome!

What a way to be welcomed home! The looks on some of the peoples' faces are priceless and the music is great. This is part of an ad campaign by the MobileTV and it is accomplished brilliantly in a way that should bring a smaile to anyone's face.

It sorta reminds me of the Facemob in the Antwerp Central Station. Check out this post for that one: Hairspray & Central Station Antwerp Flash Dance Mobs.

SupaDupaFlyGirl Liz Sings "Airplanes" w/ Andre And Has A New Channel

One of my favorite youtubers surprised me today. Liz aka SupaDupaFlyGirl sang - yes, I didn't know she could sing. I usually put her videos on and sorta blank out because of those eyes, but SDFG can also carry a tune.

The dude doing the rap part of the song was SidekickFlip also known as Andre, so check out his channel. I don't usually like too much rap, but his flowed excellently. Usually when you watch Liz she does the talkin' vlog thing and that's why I'm subbed to her (as are 41K other youtubers) but she's very multi-faceted (as you can see from this video) and has another channel for her photography, so check that one out at flytographer.

She also just announced that she was starting another channel called asksupadupa. She gives details in the video below:

I've watched several of her other videos and she is an intelligent person willing to share straightforward advice, so you might want to tune in to her new channel. Me, I'm going to listen to her song one more time and try to persuade her to make some more music videos.

And how come that song isn't on iTunes Liz?!

DaveDays ~ "Turn Off The Lights" Song For Ecomagination Challenge

It seems that DaveDays is coming out with new songs just about every other week! Actually his most recent video was released about 2 weeks ago, see my post about What Does It Take.

And yes, that was Kimmi (last seen in Dave's Olive You video) and Sammah of "Do It Float?" fame hidin' out in the shower. Actually, Dave credits Sammah and Cyr for doing the filming.

This looks like it may be part of the Ecomagination Challenge and you have to like Dave's style: "yeah, we gotta turn the lights off baby. Don't you wanna save the environment?"

And you can pick up the newest DaveDays song (and his others too) over at davedays/itunes (actually Dave's giving this one away for FREE and that link takes you to his website).

Amy Kuney's New Song "Hope A Little Harder"

This is a new song from Amy Kuney that was recently featured on the television series One Tree Hill (season 8, episode 2). The song is called Hope A Little Harder and is available from iTunes. My suggestion? Buy it and support an up-and-coming singer who has a lot of videos and songs on her YouTube channel.

I received a friend request on YouTube from her and I always check out the other person's channel to see whether or not I should accept their request and I was very happy to click on her video of this song. I immediately accepted her as a friend and subscribed to her channel. She currently has 17,904 subs and should have more. Her channel states she is an unsigned singer and hopefully if you check out her music and maybe subscribe to her as well, it will help persuade the muckety-mucks in the recording industry that she should get signed!

There are a number of great artists on YouTube with varying levels of success and by subscribing to them you will get some great music and maybe help support a new artist.

Some Highlights Of Nice Peter Live Show

This is awesome. Youtuber Nice Peter shows some clips from one of his shows. I haven't had a chance to see him live but it looks like it would be a great show.

Love the part about the Fresh Prince of BelAir theme. I don't think he needs a backup band because he can fill in just about anywhere in his songs. He didn't give himself credit playing the harmonica either as he played that very well too - hey he played part of the song doing 2 harmonica parts in harmony, so that's worth something right?

And that silly bandz thing you blow? It looked like a clarinet to me, but it mine have been slipped in from the silly bandz porn collection - I dunno lol.

Hank Green's Strange Charm: A Song About Quarks

One thing you have to say about the vlogbrothers is that they do make science and other nerdy stuff seem interesting. In this clip, Hank Green has put together a catchy song about what quarks are and their place in the universe, which is no mean feat.

And if you don't know who "the vlogbrothers" are, they are brothers Hank & John Green, who have been vlogging to each other on alternative days for at least 2 years. They were instrumental in putting together the recent VidCon online media conference held in Los Angeles during the summer of 2010 that brother hundreds of youtubers (probably thousands actually), and it looks like there may be another one coming up in 2011.
