Shay Carl Behind the Scenes At Vidcon

In case you don't know, a little gathering of online folks has been taking place in L.A. known as "Vidcon" and here Shay Carl and the Shaytards are vlogging about the shindig. Shay and the family are going to be on stage (hopefully Shay won't throw Rocktard out into the audience like last year) and if you watch the video you will likely see all sorts of the top Youtubers. First there's KassemG, Michael Buckley from his "What The Buck Show", iJustine, Tobuscus, MysteryGuitarMan, CTFxC (Charles Trippy and Alli Speed) and many others passing by the camera.



Now don't you wish you had bought a ticket? It unfortunately sold out in early May. If you're thinking ahead to Vidcon 2012 it is still a long way away and the location and other stuff has not been worked out, but you better plan on buying your ticket as soon as they become available.

Shaytards: School's Out And The Shaytards Featured By Forbes Magazine

Yet another school year has now come and gone and it looks like the Shaytards are going to be heading back to California again before the next one starts. Today's video starts with the junior high "end of the year assembly" and a Cheerleader Flash Mob (with Carly in a cheerleader outfit). Sontard busts out the worm and a bunch of cheerleaders flood the gym floor for a dance.



Shay doesn't mention it during the video but he posted a link to an article that was written about the Shaytards in Forbes called ShayCarl’s Epic Journey To YouTube Stardom written by Michael Humphrey that tells Shay & Katilette's story about how they met and their success on Youtube. The article is just the first of six that Humphrey will be doing on various Youtubers. My guess is that he will be doing one of Phil DeFranco and maybe Ryan Higa or Ray William Johnson so keep an eye out for those.

The Shaytards Give Away Two Flip Cameras

Once again it's "One Take Sunday" with the Shaytards and they have a whole slew of announcements, including that they are going to pick the winners of the two flip cameras that they promised a while back.



Also, Shay's appearance on the television series No Ordinary Family should be March 22nd. He plays a security guard just in case you didn't know.

And it looks like the whole Shaytards clan will be making their way over to Florida for PlayList Live which runs from March 26-27th. There are going to be a ton of Youtubers present including Wheezy Waiter, KassemG, Lisa Nova, Timothy DeLaGhetto, Michell Davis & Kyle Sibert (LiveLavaLive), Mystery Guitar Man, iJustine, MeekaKitty, Charles Trippy & Alli Speed of CTFxC and too many more to mention. One other thing about Playlist Live is that they are going to be giving away free tickets, so that's another reason to check out their website.

Shay Carl Pledges To Lose 40 Pounds By March 5th

I was just watching the video below from the Shaytards and it looks like Shay Carl is going to try to shed a little bit of his excess Shay:



For those of us who are longtime viewers of the Shaytards, we know Shay has been trying over the years to drop some tonnage (and even started a channel back in early November 2009 called ShayLoss) it has been difficult for the big guy. According to what he said in the vlog he hopes to lose 40 pounds by his 31st birthday (it's already almost Shay's birthday again?) which is March 5th.

Shay is actually very active for a heavier dude as you can tell by his Shaytards vlogs and always doing healthy stuff with Mommytard and the tardlets. His problem, like most of us is that he likes food a lot.

I for one knew he was planning something along these lines because I follow him on Twitter (follow him here: @shaycarl). He has been tweeting with @phillyd (Philip DeFranco) and others about working out and stuff. Phil is also trying to drop some weight and it looks like it is Game On between Shay, Phil and some others. If you want to try to lose a handle here or there or just offer support to them, let them know (either on Twitter or on their videos).

And here's the video where Phil DeFranco Challenges Shay to lose weight over the next 30 days, starting on January 31st. The stakes are that whomever loses the least has to pay $2,000 to the other's charity of choice. Solid wager there. Phil said in the video that he wants to lose about 15 pounds, but if you watched the Shaytards' video Shay said he could probably lose 15 pounds in just a few days. I think Phil may lose this one, but still, the winner will be whichever charity ends up getting the moola. It will be interesting to watch them battle it out.

Shaytards: Rocktard's Starting To Crawl And Mommytard Gets A Little Loopy

Watching Shay Carl playing with his son, little Rocktard, it is hard to believe it is only about 7 months since Shay and Mommytard went to the hospital to have the little guy. If you haven't seen the video of when Rocktard was born (you aren't a real Shaytards fan unless you've seen this video), here's a link to the Bradshaw's Blog post I did about it: Shaytards Clan Welcomes A New Member. Seeing how alert and all smiley-faced he is now and how he is sooo close to actually crawling, it's hard to imagine watching a Shaytards video without catching a glimpse of the youngest tardlet.



Watching this video you know it's just a matter of time before Rocktard will be scampering after his older brother and sisters and getting into some sort of mischief.

And poor Mommytard had to visit the dentist again. Katilette was downright loopy after getting her crown put on. Even under the influence of the laughing gas she's still PDC ("Pretty Darn Cute" as Shay would say) and you have to laugh when she called him her "suger daddy" for footing the bill.

If you didn't see the video Katilette uploaded yesterday of her and Carli at the gym, you would have missed Rocktard's attempts to crawl, but you can really see he's a little mover now. Here's a link if you missed it: Katilette at the gym with Carli.

Oh Snap! It's The Shaytards 8th Wedding Anniversary

Not only is this video the 700th video that the Shaytards have uploaded to Youtube, but it is also the 8th Wedding Anniversary of Shay Carl and Katilette (aka Mommytard). I'll bet neither one could have possibly dreamed that this would be what they were going to be doing when they got hitched back in the day. What is the gift usually associated with the 8th year of marriage? Do people actually give gifts based on that stuff? According to what I've Googled (hey, I don't know this girly stuff! I'm a dude! Ask me about football or hockey!) um, yeah, the 8th wedding anniversary is usually celebrated with bronze. Sorta like you get a 3rd place medal for making it this far in your married life. You get past the fabled "seven year itch" and you get a bronze medal. Not that I think Shay or Katilette had to worry about a 7 year itch because they obviously really love each other. But let's go to the footage:



One thing, I didn't know that they had Malachi before they even had Sontard, so their dog is actually getting up there and is about 8-9 years old because they celebrated Sontard's 7th Birthday last month.

But more importantly, Shay and Mommytard get to head out for a romantic night and leave the tardlets in the capable hands of Shay's sister Carlie. It was nice seeing Katilette doing some singing again and I didn't know she had a brother. She looked hot when she was singing too! Can I say she looked hot? She's a married woman with 4 small kids. I don't care, yes, Mommytard looked very pretty. I'm sure Shay would agree that his wife is a total hottie lol. Shay! Post more videos of Mommytard singing! Also it was nice getting a glimpse at Katilette's extended family and of course Sontard had to bust a move when the music started lol.

That part at the end when they were at Twin Falls Idaho, I'd have to say I am on Mommytard's side. I like the height but don't want to get too close to the edge. Not like Carlie who looked like she was going to hop the fence. Beautiful sight all the way down to the river and that water looked very cold.

Shaytards Christmas Extravaganza: It's Shaytastic!

Here's the long-awaited Shaytards Christmas Special. It clocks in at a whopping 37 minutes, but for fans of Shay Carl, Katilette and the various tardlets, it is just the right length for a Shaytards video. Come spend Christmas with the number one family on Youtube:



Shay was promising this extra-long Shaytards video for a few days now and it was definitely worth the wait. Loved the parts at the skate board ramp/gym with just about every tard bouncing and jumping all over the place. I was also impressed by Shay and his brothers and sister with the handstands. Gotta give kudos to Casey for holding his hand stand the longest. One thing I like about these videos is that the whole family gets involved, even Grampa and Grandma tard. They all seem to be having fun and it is good exercise for the entire clan.

Liking the tradition of everyone wearing the same pajamas too. The kids looked too cute (as well as Mommytard and her sisters-in-law), but the guys took the cake.

that Sontard got - just too cool for school. Loved seeing all the kids so excited about their various presents.

Shaytards: Idaho Football, Hot Chicks And Sontard Turns Seven

Looks like Shay Carl and the whole Shaytards clan are off to watch a little Idaho football as Boise State takes on Utah State. You can find out more here about the Boise-Utah game.



First Shay had to take the tardlets for a dip in the pool and Babytard just about explodes with excitement to get swimming. Lol at little Cooper (Shay's nephew) when Shay's brother shows him how to swim and Cooper starts swimming in mid-air. Then off they go to the Big Game.

The football game was pretty good (a blue football field?) and the home team won which was good. Right at the end, we get to see Sontard celebrating his birthday. Hard to believe he's already seven! Before Shay and Katilette know it, they'll be watching Sontard playing football in college. Let's see, that would mean Shay would be doing the Shaytards vlog in about 12 years! I think Shay just shuddered at the thought that they will still be filming in 12 years, but we'll probably all still be watching.

Shaytards Date Night And The Princesstard Diaries

Shay Carl and Katilette have decided to have a little "Date Night" and turned filming of the Shaytards over to little Princesstard.



While Shay and Mommytard are out having a little much-needed "us" time, we get to see a young filmmaker learning the ropes as a Youtube vlogger as Princesstard turns the Shaytards' camera on her brothers and sister. Sontard of course starts bustin' moves all over the place as soon as the camera is on him and Babytard is her usual giggly bundle of cuteness. Even Rocktard seems happy for a little face time in front of the camera.

At around 4:30 or so when she was telling us that the babysitter didn't want to be filmed, all I could think was that Princesstard was doing her vlogging with a "Toby Turner-esque" flair and kept waiting for her to say "outro of darkness, then redness, then whiteness, then Princesstardness".

I liked that idea that Shay was floating called "Sneaky Snacks" where people load up on snacks and food and stuff to sneak into the movie theater when they are going to see a film. Of course then movie prices would have to go up if the theaters had a massive decline in popcorn and snack sales. Still, not a bad business idea. And loves Shay's showing us "the Rudy of water fountains" (Rudy of course being that movie of the kid who wanted desperately to play football for the University of Notre Dame - excellent movie).

Yup, I agree with Shay's assessment of Princesstard's vlogging abilities. She's gunnin' for your job Shay!

Shaytards: Don't Come To Winkos And Get The Swedish Fish

I don't know what it is, but it seems that most of the Shaytards I laugh hardest at are the ones with the tardlets at the local store?



It was nice to see Babytard's reaction to seeing herself on the cover of the new CD from James Blunt and her saying almost "well, duh, Dad" when Shay Carl asked if she knew she was famous. One thing I do notice about the various Shaytard children is that when you ask them a question they always say "Yes" (especially Sontard) and not the more common "Yeah". Just nitpicking, but it's good to see kids even as young as Babytard speaking clearly.

Loved seeing Shay rolling around in that pile of leaves too. That did seem to be so "Shay Carl" of a thing to do and then pop up waving at the passing cars.

And Princesstard crawling into the Eggo waffle section of the cooler was great. She seems so random lol, but I'm betting Shay told her to do it. Katilette's reaction was funny too - "I don't know these people".

And of course the part where Shay was getting Mommytard to smell the various bulk food candies and then made her sniff Sontard. Classic man-humor.

As always the vlog ends too soon - they are always around 15 minutes long, but the time watching them flies by. I wanted to see more of the football brawl!

Shaytards: First Snowfall In 2 Parts And The Great WalMart Trek

Always like seeing kids playing outside when it snows for the first time of the year. Hate the snow by February and March, but not right away and the little tardlets are having fun. And yes, Shay, get a coat on that Babytard before she gets the pah-mon-ia!



When Shay and the Shaytards were at that restaurant and Sontard was "working on the Johnson file" and Shay was asking Princesstard about the TPS reports" which is of course a reference to the classic comedy Office Space (which if you haven't seen, you need to see). But more importantly, did you see that Speed Demon Coaster? I agee with Shay that was awesome. But let's not get distracted by all the WalMart toys lol.

Hey, that was a rare Shay and Katilette smootch when he was asking if he could help her with her hiccups. You never see them kissing.

I did like Princesstard insisting that she was going to be a police officer rather than a famous actress as she was goading her into being. Good career choice Princesstard!



Too cute when Babytard went up to get change for the dollar. So shy. But like Shay said: "There comes a time in every girl's life when she has to ask for change."

Big thumbs up for each of the Shaytards bustin' a move on the Danca Dance Revolution game.

Shay Carl At The Station, But Soon Heading Home To See The Tardlets

It looks like Shay is still in Los Angeles doing some top secret work for The Station, leaving Mommytard at home as the Tardlet Wrangler. Shay should be flying home to join the Shaytards tomorrow.



Shay was wandering the halls of the Station in a bloody butcher's apron so I'm hoping he is getting character for an upcoming video, while meanwhile back at "Chez Carl" (like my play on words there?) Katilette is contending with the rambunctious Shaytard children - Princesstard is truly frightening with her werewolf makeup, but Sontard was looking good shootin' hoops. I think I would have called a lot of travelling violations and fouls in that game, but they're just learning, so you have to cut them some slack. I do think Sontard may be more of a football guy than a basketball guy.

It was funny seeing them filming a scene at the Station and KassemG silently tearing Shay a new one for vlogging while they went over what the wanted to do in the scene. I've noticed that the videos from "The Station" have slowed down in number while their 2nd channel, The Station2 have increased.

Sontard and Princesstard are watching an old Shaytards video and busting a gut laughing (and missing Shay too it seems). Here's the video they were watching:



So Shay will be back in Idaho tomorrow. And tell Shay to remember his toothbrush and not to leave his camera on the plane this time!

Shay Carl's Fetish For Granite-Tiled Bathrooms

Shay Carl is off to Los Angeles once more, but first he and Mommytard take the various tardlets to that great food emporium Dennys, home of the 24/7 breakfast/lunch/dinner menu.



Shay falls victim to one of those scamming toy machines when he lets Sontard and Princesstard try to win a stuffed animal while at the restaurant. I hate those things! I worked with a girl who won stuff all the time out of them but when I do it (much like Sontard), I'm left grabbing air. When Shay asks Babytard what she wants to eat (about 3:05 into the video), I think she makes a face and looks just like Katilette when she says she wants chicken and fries. LOL at Sontard he's getting dropped off for school and Shay kids him about "keepin' his lips off all the girls at his school".

What movie does Shay quote to Mommytard and Babytard? It's Disney's The Sword In The Stoneof course! Anyone with a passing knowledge of the Disney movies should have picked that one up pretty quick, although it is one of their older films. Don't know what Babytard was doing just as Shay got on the plane lol. You never know what the Shaytards will do next - which I think is why everyone likes them.

Then Shay is in L.A., and on his way to The Station to check in and he mentions all the new people in the office - it does seem like there's more and more new faces there when we see the behind the scenes stuff, but there are a lot of familiar ones too, like Rawn, Ceciley, Lisa Nova, Danny Diamond and Kassem and the others.

But of course, it's the end of the Shaytards' video where Shay displays his deep appreciation for the granite tilework of the bathroom in the hotel where he's staying.

If you are a longtime viewer of the Shaytards, you know that at one time Shay used to install granite countertops for a living and that's what he was talking about. I can get what he's talking about - the craftmanship and work that went into putting up the tiles etc. That is tough work and although Shay claims to be happy to be done with it, doing owrk on houses like that never really leaves you and Shay obviously likes seeing good work. I'd like to see that "dream house" he was talking about - probably all marbled in granite with a trampolin in the back yard.

Shaytards: Shay Loves American Choppers & Carlie's Not A Lesbian

Mommytard is all in a tizzy because she cannot find her missing shoe as today's Shaytards vlog starts. Shay of course, is busy editing yesterday's before he uploaded it and I agree with Shay about the thumbnail being epic lol. I was thinking the same thing as soon as I saw little Princesstard's eye-popping mug. This one has some footage of Shay's sister Carlie and Shay and Katilette go to the movies. Sounds boring? Just watch.



Shay has a new obsession: American Choppers and wants to get a Shaytards motorcycle. Can't you just picture it? With the Shaytards all painted on the gas tank and a big beard emblem across the handle bars lol.

Later we get to see Babytard watching herself on the computer and then she starts mugging for the camera just like Princesstard does! I think it is only a matter of time before she starts acting just like Princesstard which would be so funny to see. Shay's trying to talk to Katilette about the painting he mentioned in another vlog that he wanted Darryn from raeart to make for them. I'll include the video Shay was watching below.

Later Shay and Mommytard are heading out to see the new movie Secretariat and Carlie (Shay's sister) is going to look after the tardlets. Katilette is wearing new jeans and Carlie mentions that she is planning on selling that style on a new YouTube channel she is thinking about. Shay mentions that Carlie had a channel (called CarlieSass, but now shut down) but had a hard time with the hateful comments from some viewers who took potshots at her for being a single mother and that she must be a lesbian (that's why Shay called this video "My Sisters Not A Lesbian!" lol). Carlie did stand up for herself and said that the haters could "bring it on" which was great.

All the viewers (including myself) left very supportive comments saying that she should ignore the trolls and charge ahead with her idea. When she does start this channel I'll subscribe on principle alone as she is a single mom and I like what she brings to the vlog when she appears. And it's not just because she's a hot blond cheerleader (okay, maybe partially lol) but like most true Shaytards fans, I like this family and will help them were I can - they give me and thousands of other viewers a humorous look into their daily lives for free, so that's a little bit of payback.

Later Shay and Mommytard are all alone in the movie theater and I thought for sure when they noticed they were alone that Shay would say "wanna make out?" to Mommytard.

In the last Shaytards video, Shay mentioned he might be attending a Toronto Ontario Youtube gathering and there is one on November 6th, 2010 at the Eatons Center at about 7pm, but I haven't received confirmation that this is the one Shay was talking about. Shay Carl May Be Coming To Toronto & He May Be Bringing Buttermilk Biscuits

Poor Shay Carl may have to turn in his old passport because he may be going to Toronto Canada sometime soon. You can almost hear all the Canadian Shaytards fans "I am SO there!" as soon as he mentioned a possible gathering in Toronto.



And what did you think about Babytard's singing Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star? I am a tough as nails kinda guy and that did "melt my heart" as Shay said. Katilette sang a few times on the vlog, but they should get Babytard doing some more singing. Hey, she's already on the cover of a famous musician's CD, get her on iTunes lol.

I think the funniest part was when Shay was driving the family home and did the "commercial" for Heritage Foods and Mommytard yelled at him for being gross and Shay said "We'll edit that part out" and sorta winked at the camera.

What do you think of Shay's passport dilemma? I've had the same thing with old drivers licenses and other picture ID that I just couldn't bare to part with. Should he hide it in a drawer and tell them he "lost" his passport? Wouldn't want him to get into trouble.

Babytard! Stop Sucking Your Thumb!

I somehow stumbled across this great compilation of Babytard moments from the Shaytards vlogs. In case you don't know who she is, she's the youngest daughter of Shay Carl and Katilette who do a daily vlog of their family on YouTube that is one of the website's most subscribed channels.



It seems that just about every Shaytards video has Shay telling Babytard to stop sucking her thumb and the video above was uploaded by a Shaytards viewer. Each of the children in the family has their own moments to shine and are little characters in their own right and the children plus their wacky Dad, Shay Carl along with their lovely mother Katilette, also known as Mommytard make up the Shaytards. Their videos also have other members of Shay's family appearing from time to time (I'm a little partial to Shay's cheerleader sister Carlie) and usually shows the family going about their day with the odd trip out of town thrown in.

But one of the favorites of viewers is little Babytard because she is (as her Dad says) PDP - meaning pretty darn precious.

Also, recently Shay mentioned on the vlog that a picture of Babytard being thrown in the air by Shay was going to be used on the cover of a CD. Check this post: Babytard's A Covermodel?! Yup, She's On James Blunt's New CD.

It's The Shay & Malachi Show And Yes, The Shaytards Moved

It was good to see the Shaytards feature their dog Malachi a bit as I've read several comments from viewers saying they hadn't seen much of that dog recently.



Shay and Malachi were heading over to the Shaytards old house - yes, they moved awhile back to a new place in their hometown. No, I don't have their mailing address and that's because Shay and Katilette want a certain degree of privacy. That's also why they use the names "Sontard", "Princesstard" etc for their children - I do actually know what their names are, but I won't tell you neener, neener. They want to keep the kids' names private, so until Shay and Mommytard say otherwise, their real names will not be seen on this blog. And you should respect their wishes as good little Shaytards fans.

It was odd seeing the old Shaytards' stomping grounds and I sort of expected to see things like the trampoline in the backyard but they've moved to a newer home.

What do you think of GrandmaTard's new kitten? Gotta say very cute and Malachi was very, very interested in that cat lol. It's funny seeing a huge dog like him sniffing and fussing over a tiny animal like the kitten.

And I had to include Katilette's most recent video, where she and the tardlets show the Halloween decorations they bought. She also talks about Halloween traditions that her mom taught her as a little girl.

Shaytards: Shay Goes To L.A. And Some Ecomagination Footage

So, once again, Shay Carl is off to La-La land to make some videos with theStation. He first has to say goodbye to the Shaytards clan he's leaving back home in Idaho. I think that the part with Rocktard smiling at the beginning was some of his best scenes. He's smirkin' and smiling like crazy. Then it's on the plane to California (Don't forget your camera this time Shay!)



And he almost forgets his camera on the plane again lol. Lucky for him he remembered it before he left the airport. Hopefully he doesn't forget his toothbrush again (he does that too). You sure can tell that Shay loves his wife and kids because he's only away a few hours and he's already missing them. Loved the part where he asked the parking lot guy "Where do I find a hot brunette who's married and has 4 kids?" IDAHO of course.

Don't care what you say Shay, lil Rocktard is a cute bambino. Shay Carl is thinking that the Shaytards viewers are somehow tired of how PDP their tardlets are and Rocktard in particular (and Rocktard was giving Shay a big grin as he was trying to say this lol).



Good to see an appearance by Malachi, their dog. I've read several comments asking where Malachi was because he hadn't been seen much recently, but he always seems a little camera-shy. Loved hearing Babytard saying "Pump-kin-tard" when they were trying to name the pumpkin Katilette has been growing in their backyard.

What do you think about their tribute to the movie The Sound of Music? Should they take their act on the road? I'd like to see Mommytard doing a bit more singing in the vlogs, but ALL the subscribers say that.

And don't forget about the Supernote contest. The team Shay is the captain of, appropriately named the "Shaytards Rebellionites" is still in the lead, but Wheezy Waiter's "Team Beard" is narrowing the gap, so if you have not yet submitted a supernote video of your own, you can do so on Shay's iphone channel iphoneTARD.

Shaytards: Singing Tardlets, Shay's Pyro Mom & Halloween Shopping

Better get that Sontard signed up to a big recording contract soon or another record company will snap him up lol. All three of the kids are singing at the start of this vlog and Sontard is singin' his heart out.



Once again Shay talks about ending the daily vlogs or just taking a much needed break and that is understandable given they are coming up on their 2nd anniversary as the Shaytards. Even doing something you love can become a grind if you don't step away even for a short break. That is what I (and nearly all Shaytards fans) am hoping for.

You know that with a week off from the Internet Shay will be chomping at the bit to get back on again - he probably wouldn't last even a week. Katilette would have to keep talking to him "Now Shay, you said you would take a week off..." What do you think? Should Shay and his family go for a week off and banish the Internet so they can recharge? He's probably worried that all the fans of the videos will disappear, but everyone would welcome them back and their channels would just grow even more. I vote yea, let Shay have some time off, then get back at it, cranking out those videos!

As far as this vlog went, we learned that Shay's mom is a bit of a pyromaniac lol, burning dish towels and if it weren't for a quickwitted Princesstard, then chez Carl might have burnt to the ground.

And it was good to see that they got the van doors fixed. It usually is something simple like that. There's the lesson for the day kids - if something doesn't work, turn it off and back on and sometimes it will re-set itself. Except that Shay had the power doors on off already.

First, they have to drop off Princesstard and Babytard with Shay's hot sister Carli (do I say she's hot too often? I think I do, but, well, she's kinda hot) for cheerleading/gymnastics practice. Shay and Katilette then go into what happened to the van doors (Shay tried to jump a median). Then they took the kids Halloween costume shopping...
