Criticism of Israel is not anti-Semitism, stupid!

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 05:43 PM PDT

"When you read the history of Israel from objective sources, you discover that it is an outlaw state, created by the powers that be by stealing the land from its original inhabitants, and systematically exterminating them ever since," John Kaminski, a US writer.

"Anti-Israel sentiment is really just thinly disguised veil for good old-fashioned anti-Semitism," Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada in an interview with CJAD/CFRB radio, May 2008.

Israeli mayors' visit runs aground in Spain, Netherlands

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 04:55 PM PDT

The Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG) canceled a 19 September visit by Israeli mayors because the delegation included leaders of illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, igniting a firestorm in the Dutch parliament centered at foreign affairs minister Maxime Verhagen.

The visit of thirty Israeli mayors to the Netherlands was organized by the Israeli branch of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC). The aim of the trip was to learn more about public policies and the Dutch system of local, regional and national authorities.

Israeli soldiers ate chocolate while shooting children

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 03:01 PM PDT

BBC report of Israeli soldiers ordering a Palestinian family out of their home then opening fire with an M16 machine gun. Two children were instantly killed and one is paralysed. All this happened while the soldiers ate chocolate and crisps.

The Arabs run Hollywood…and I can prove it!

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 02:06 PM PDT

For years, motion pictures and television programs have been rife with pro-Muslim sentiment.

There can no longer be any denial of the fact that there is an obvious, deliberate and concerted effort by the Arab run media to win the hearts and minds of the American people.

Just take a look at this gallery of  Hollywood production stills.  Do you not see the blatant attempt to advance Islamic ideaology and portray Muslims as romantic and dashing role models for our young people to emulate?

Passengers grabbed Israeli weapons to stop the killing

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 12:02 PM PDT

After seeing passengers shot at close range they tried to grab the weapons to stop the killing. Kenneth Nichols O'Keefe was later beaten by the Israelis.

A US war veteran said yesterday he confronted Israeli commandos when they raided a Gaza-bound aid ship which he had boarded as a peace activist, Anatolia news agency reported. Kenneth Nichols O'Keefe, his face bruised and still stained with blood, flew to Istanbul from Tel Aviv, on his way to Ireland, the report said.

How Israel controls your media

Once you have watched this all should be clear to you! Always question the MSM and why their news is being reported. There is always an agenda and there is always censorship and manipulation of your thoughts.

Israel can't refute UN flotilla probe

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 10:33 AM PDT

On Sept 22, the United Nations Human Rights Council released its blistering, 56-page report on Israel's attack of the Free Gaza flotilla. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu promptly proclaimed it "biased and distorted." Israel directed all Zionist organizations worldwide to do likewise. Yet for nearly a week no substantive rebuttal has come from world Zionism. Even Israel's dependable PR pit bull, the Anti-Defamation League, was silent-until Tuesday.

Norwegian and U.S. Soldiers Kill for Thrills in Afghanistan

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 10:17 AM PDT

Norwegians and Scandinavians are shocked and appalled to read that Norwegian soldiers actually enjoy killing Afghan resistance fighters, who are fighting the foreign occupation of their country.  The Norwegian magazine Alfa coming out this week carries an article with interviews with Norwegian snipers who brag about killing Afghans from more than 2,500 meters.  The Norwegian report mirrors a grisly ABC News report of U.S. troops "Killing for Sport" innocent Afghan civilians and cutting off parts of their bodies.  These reports reveal the false morality of the criminal war in Afghanistan.

"We focus on doing things right, instead of doing the right things"

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 10:10 AM PDT

This quote from an international aid worker in Jerusalem prefaces a new briefing paper from Oxford University's Refugee Studies Centre. Written by Dr. Jason Hart and Claudia Lo Forte, "Protecting Palestinian children from political violence - the role of the international community" provides some interesting reading. It highlights the fear that the objectives of the international aid agencies operating in the occupied Palestinian territories (oPts) may well be very different to the requirements of the people the agencies are trying to help. "It seems that for the people themselves [Palestinians living under Israeli occupation] it's not just about responding when damage has been done in terms of, you know, psychosocial services. It's actually about preventing that damage from happening in the first place." The response from the "bilateral donor agency officer in Jerusalem to the researcher's statement is telling: "Well, that's a political agenda and one that I'm probably not best to go into with you here."

Israeli Subs: On Dolphins and German Crimes

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 10:09 AM PDT

Israeli Submarines Insignia Following the crimes committed by Israel during the Gaza's Freedom Flotilla events (now it's official, the UN committee investigating the event found Israel committed war crimes on international waters), Turkey cut its extensive military relations with Israel. The IDF cannot use Turkey's air and maritime territories anymore. Considering the fact that Turkey and Iran are experiencing a warm spring in their relations, this last move may not be a surprise. Yet, it turned out not being an isolated event. This week, Israel was restricted again, this time at an unexpected flank.

Musical storytelling: Reem Kelani interviewed

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 09:14 AM PDT

Watching Reem Kelani perform in front of an ecstatic crowd at Halifax's "Discover Palestine" festival, one would be forgiven for thinking that this is an artist with her career path laid out for her. She delivers stunning vocal performances, ranging from Palestinian lullabies and settings of Mahmoud Darwish's poems to early twentieth century pieces by Egyptian master Sheikh Sayyid Darwish evoking the lives of working-class Nubian Egyptians. Describing herself as a storyteller, her performance incorporates a joyful desire to share knowledge and understanding. Arabic-language lyrics are translated for the mainly English-speaking audience and the long, intricate histories behind some of the lyrics and melodies are unpicked. The audience is gently encouraged to join in, and slowly relaxing its British reserve, ends by clapping and singing along enthusiastically. And an unplanned performance from the Lajee Center debka troupe, dancing to Kelani and her band, leaves the crowd torn between shouting their defiance or drying tears from their eyes.

When the Taliban calls, pick up?

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 08:59 AM PDT

There is a saying, I may be twisting in the retelling, to the effect of what you do unto others will be done onto you. These thoughts come to mind as I wrestle with a dilemma that seems to be worming its way out of the soil of a country at war overseas and with itself.

Earlier this week, I received a friend request on Facebook from one Abdullah Musafir. He identified himself as from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. His wall was filled with Islamic proverbs and reports on the killing of Western forces and battles with "cowardly terrorists," i.e., NATO, Afghan soldiers and US Troops. There were reference to the destruction of "puppet" police vehicles and the use of IEDs.

Failed Washington-Sponsored Ecuadorean Coup Attempt

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 07:48 AM PDT

steve lendmanPost-9/11, Washington sponsored four coup d'etats. Two succeeded - most recently in Honduras in 2009 against Manuel Zelaya, and in Haiti in 2004 deposing Jean-Bertrand Aristide. Two others failed - in Venezuela in 2002 against Hugo Chavez, and on September 30 in Ecuador against Rafael Correa - so far. Two by Bush, two by Obama with plenty of time for more mischief before November 2012.

From his record so far, expect it. He continues imperial Iraq and Afghanistan wars and occupations. In addition, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, Palestine, Lebanon, North Korea, and other countries are targeted, besides deploying CIA and Special Forces armies into at least 75 countries worldwide for targeted assassinations, drone attacks, and other disruptive missions.

In defense of South African academics' boycott call

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 06:39 AM PDT

When African National Congress leader Chief Albert Luthuli made a call for the international community to support a boycott of apartheid South Africa in 1958, the response was a widespread and dedicated movement that played a significant role in ending apartheid. Amid the sporting boycotts, the pledges of playwrights and artists, the actions by workers to stop South African goods from entering local markets and the constant pressure on states to withdraw their support for the apartheid regime, the role of academics also came to the fore.

One significant move was the resolution taken by 150 Irish academics not to accept academic posts or appointments in apartheid South Africa. In 1971, the council of Trinity College Dublin took a decision not to own shares in any company that traded or had a subsidiary that traded in the Republic. The council later resolved that the university would not retain any formal or institutional links with any academic or state institution in South Africa.

Will the Dollar Rebound Before Being Dissolved Into Global Currency?

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 05:23 AM PDT

Every time the dollar begins to decline, I wonder, "Is this it, is this the end to the fiat dollar?"  The fundamentals suggest that it should be finished, but just as the world is about to declare it dead, miraculously a global storyline seems to emerge just when needed and foreign investors rush back in for "safety."  A clear example was the steady drumbeat of a sovereign-foreign-debt war that resulted in reports of whether the Euro would even survive, while the dollar enjoyed a triumphant ride up victory mountain.

The Risk of Currency Devaluation

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 04:59 AM PDT

It is interesting to watch Wall Street defy reality. This is a scene we've observed since the early 1960s, the effect of debt on the economy and the nation and in turn on its currency. The result of the profligacy over all those years is the biggest bull market in history in gold and silver. As we write gold is toying with $1,300 and silver with $21.50. Each day a new high is reached in spite of a pending options expiration and the perpetual market rigging and manipulation by the US government.

You get the truth only form 'former' officials'

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 03:29 AM PDT

Warning from the Obama administration's submission to Israeli pressure, in an interview with the Lebanese OTV, Michael Scheuer, a 'former' senior CIA officer, said: "Three hundred million Americans could wake up tomorrow to discover that a foreign leader, Benjamin Netanyahu, led them to war with Iran, which might lead to war with the rest of the Muslim world".   He added, "Israel has no value whatsoever when it comes to American interests.  It does not produce or give us anything we need.  The only thing we get from it is that it is leading us to a religious war it seeks with Islam".

Documents released by the National Security Archives Center, after having been declassified, show that hours after the 9/11 attacks, US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld talked about attacking Iraq - according to minutes of a meeting held that day - and asked for "evidence which shows an alleged relationship between the former head of the Iraqi regime and al-Qaeda leader".  The United States acknowledged later that no relation existed between the former Iraqi regime and the 9/11 attacks.  Nevertheless, it went ahead with invading Iraq.

Michael White in conversation with Sir Gerald Kaufman MP

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 02:58 AM PDT

On Sunday 26 September, the Middle East Monitor (MEMO) held a joint fringe event with the Labour Friends of Palestine and the Middle East (LFPME) at the Labour Party conference. The event featured Michael White (assistant editor of the Guardian) interviewing Sir Gerald Kaufman MP, who talked about his journey from being a supporter of Israel to becoming an outspoken champion for Palestine. The interview was filled with good humour and wit throughout the event, the two speakers obviously sharing a good working relationship.

Egypt's new political dawn

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 01:45 AM PDT

An understated cartoon by Amr Okasha published in the online version of the opposition newspaper al-Dustour, aptly expressed the pessimism that many people have about the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Okasha's cartoon shows the distinctive dome of the Maglis al-Sha'b – the Peoples' Assembly. A smirking general standing in front of it. The caption says "Businessman's Assembly (formerly People's Assembly)."

Bill Gates says vaccines can help reduce world population

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 12:00 AM PDT

In a recent TED conference presentation, Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates, who has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to new vaccine efforts, speaks on the issue of CO2 emissions and its effects on climate change. He presents a formula for tracking CO2 emissions as follows: CO2 = P x S x E x C.

P = People
S = Services per person
E = Energy per service
C = CO2 per energy unit

Synthetic HRT linked once again to causing breast cancer

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 12:00 AM PDT

A Canadian Cancer Society study has discovered what many other studies from around the world have found: that synthetic hormone replacement therapy (HRT) drugs increase a woman's risk of developing breast cancer. Researchers observed that among women who had stopped taking HRT drugs, there was a 10 percent decrease in breast cancer compared to women still taking the drugs.

Israel's Berber (Amazigh) card to fight Islam

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 05:36 PM PDT

"The rise of Nazism and Hitler to power was never, or almost never, opposed by the Zionist prior to the establishment of Israel," William James Martin in "Zionism for Dummies".

Ever since, Zionists' success in occupying an Arab land with the help of Western Christians who had been trying to solve their "Jewish Problem" – Israelis have been cultivating brotherly bonds with every community which hate Muslims religiously or politically – from extremist Hindus in India to Kurds in Iraq and from Sudan to Berbers (Amazigh) in North Africa. The World Zionist Movement leaders have always considered (rightfully) Islam and Islamic Brotherhood (Ummah) as the greatest resistance to their dream of Eretz (Greater) Israel.

Farewell to Arms: Jenny, Iraq and the Next War

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 03:56 PM PDT

Let's call her Jenny. Jenny was alone, and clearly confused. Her face was dotted with acne, and her short, blond hair was stiff at the ends. As the Skyline train sped towards the next destination, she stood 'at attention' in her military fatigue and boots staring aimlessly into the vastness of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

Jenny was not the only returnee from Iraq. The airport was bustling with men and women in uniform. There seemed to be little festivity awaiting them. The scene was marred with the same confusion and uncertainty that have accompanied this war from the start: unclear goals that kept on changing while its own advocates - in the media, the government and within right-wing think tanks - began slowly and shamelessly disowning it. They all changed their tune, and many of them redirected their venom at Iran. In the meanwhile, the soldiers continued to fight, kill and fall in droves. Following the recent reduction of troops in Iraq, thousands were expected to come home, while others headed to Afghanistan to battle on, carrying with them their inconceivably heavy gear and their continued bewilderment.

Abbas Must Forge Palestinian Unity

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 03:33 PM PDT

Mahmoud Abbas, acting president of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), seems to have an infinite number of reasons to disengage from US-sponsored negotiations with Israel. Reduced to a singularity, Palestinians possess little trust in America to negotiate an equal two-state solution and none in Israel. But Abbas wisely chose to await a special Arab League meeting, scheduled for October 4th, before deciding the near-term fate of direct talks with his counterpart, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Although Abbas is talking a tougher game since Israel's settlement "freeze" in the West Bank expired, he can't move either way without covering fire.

Days before birthday, my son sees Gaza's horror

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 03:26 PM PDT

Late on Monday night, 27 September, an Israeli drone spotted and killed three Palestinians near the Gaza-Israel boundary near the central Gaza Strip refugee camp of al-Bureij. This was just one of the frequent attacks Israel has launched on the coastal territory since its brutal three-week assault ended in January 2009. Israel claimed that the three victims had been preparing to fire projectiles into Israel when they were killed.

A mix of feelings tore through me while I was at the Shuhada al-Aqsa hospital in the town of Deir al-Balah. It was almost 10:30pm when a doctor was stitching up the lips of my little boy Muhammad, who had taken a fall while playing at home with his sister.

Olmert's Speech, and Two Fingers

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 03:25 PM PDT

Ehud Olmert raised his hands before his face, two fingertips almost touching: 'We were that close!'

He was talking about the negotiation he had conducted personally with Mahmoud Abbas, just before he himself was forced to vacate the Prime Minister's office.

The Ball is Now in Obama's Court

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 03:16 PM PDT

Although some may blame Benjamin Netanyahu and even Mahmoud Abbas for dropping the ball soon after their peace negotiations began three weeks ago, the more likely person who will be blamed should the talks collapse totally will be no other than Barack Obama on whom many had banked.

The American president has been very reluctant to be forceful, much as this could have favorably tipped the balance in favor of a final settlement. On the other hand Obama's public remarks, including his speech at the opening session of the U.N. General Assembly earlier this month, were noteworthy for his bluntness over Israeli suspension of colonization and ethnic cleansing that has been evident again this week in occupied East Jerusalem. Yet, as one columnist said on another subject, "when we really need (Obama) to take a strong stand, he's halfhearted" – a view that is gaining ground among several Mideast observers.

Israel's Stranglehold over US Foreign Policy

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 03:03 PM PDT

If Israel's stranglehold over U.S. foreign policy is to be broken, Americans will need to be informed about the harm that Washington's unconditional support for the Jewish state is doing to American interests, say leading analysts of U.S.-Israeli relations.

According to John J. Mearsheimer, co-author of The Israel Lobby and US Foreign Policy, "The only plausible way to weaken the lobby's influence on U.S. foreign policy is for prominent policymakers and opinion-makers to speak openly about the damage the special relationship is doing to the American national interest."

Israel Conscripts More 'Ambassadors'

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 02:49 PM PDT

While attempting to read an article on the Haaretz website this afternoon about the brutality of the IDF takeover of the Gaza-bound boat Irene, filled with Jewish activists, I was distracted by an advertisement at the top of the page.

The ad featured a cheerful non-Israeli woman with bangs and a flowered scarf around her neck, a picnic scene in the background, and a skewer of meat oscillating at her side. The accompanying speech balloon, which alternately appeared in Hebrew, Russian, and English, was a reference to the skewered meat: "Cooking methods in Israel are quite primitive…". The balloon was then replaced by a black box of text with the following appeal:

Hunger and poverty worsen in Gaza

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 07:50 AM PDT

"Sometimes, for a day or two we don't even have bread, nor flour to make bread. There's a store nearby that, when we are truly desperate, lets us take a bag of bread or something simple, on credit. I owe them a lot of money for the food I've brought from them, but I still can't pay them."

Umm Khamis Khattab, 52, lives in a single, bare-bones room in central Gaza's Bureij refugee camp. Khamis, her disabled son, 30, is married but has no source of income.

Stewart and Colbert Sell Neocon Agenda to Left & Trash 9/11 Truth

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 07:10 AM PDT

I just have to ask, is there anything, anything, that billionare Sumner Redstone's progressive propaganda tag-team of Jon Stewart & Stephen Colbert won't do to help turn the supposed left 180 degrees from positions they held during the previous administration?

I have written several times about Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert turning into blatant propagandists since the Chosen One took office.

Breastfeeding better than vaccines at preventing infection

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 12:00 AM PDT

Researchers in Greece are urging mothers to exclusively breastfeed their babies for at least the first six months of their lives, based on new research findings. According to the study, babies who are exclusively breastfed for the first six months experience fewer infections than those who are either breastfed for a shorter period of time, or fed formula in addition to breast milk.

Protection by any means necessary

Posted: 29 Sep 2010 01:22 AM PDT

This month, Palestinians in Lebanon commemorated the 28th anniversary of a crime whose perpetrators remain unpunished and whose victims still wait for justice. In September 1982, the Israeli army surrounded the Palestinian refugee camps of Sabra and Shatila in Beirut. For nearly three days, Israeli forces allowed their allies in the right-wing Lebanese Christian Phalange militia to enter the camps and massacre more than a thousand Palestinian refugees and Lebanese citizens. All of the victims -- men, women and children -- were unarmed civilians.

GM salmon highly allergenic, capable of breeding

Posted: 29 Sep 2010 12:00 AM PDT

The debate continues over whether or not genetically-modified (GM) salmon is safe for human consumption and fit for approval by the FDA, even though virtually all the evidence indicates that the tampered fish is a threat to human health and to the environment. Tests conducted by AquaBounty Technologies Inc., the company responsible for creating the "Frankenfish", show that the GM salmon is highly allergenic, and in some cases completely capable of breeding with wild salmon.

Viagra linked to hearing loss
