The “minimum essential coverage provision,” Judge Hudson ruled, would force American consumers to buy a government-mandated insurance product whether they wish to buy it or not. There is no provision in the US Constitution that grants Congress the power to force consumers to buy into such a monopoly — the very idea seems ludicrous.

Spy Trade is the latest in a series of books on the lobby published by his organization, the Institute for Research: Middle East Policy. In this volume, Smith offers a richly detailed narrative discussing the how and who of lobby activities in the United States from 1948-2009, uncovered through insistent Freedom of Information Act requests.

Smith argues that the lobby has systematically broken US law, damaged the country's international reputation and generally led the country onto a path in which "irreversible damage ... to US governance" is incipient (21). Smith writes that perhaps we are flirting with national "suicide." His thesis is two-pronged. The lobby isn't merely harming a series of American traditions and institutions. It has also become a motor of American policy-making: "The Israel lobby has become a major determinant of both US Middle East and broader economic policies," to our collective detriment (125). The second prong of Smith's thesis is more assertive than substantive. Take Friday. I get up and make some calls to try to squirm out of a new tax that San Mateo Co. has passed to pay for more dough for schools to squander on the uneducable…. I send a check to my local White elementary school.

Then I head down to my health club. While driving down at normal speed a small car starts tail-gateing me. What I do when that happens is hit my emergency flashing lights. I usually wait to do that becauseI drive a big German car with bumper-sticker “America First, Not Israel”, and folks like to come up on me to read it and then they back off. Not so with small car which is on me at 60 mph with about 1-2 carlengths. I start to change lanes to make a turn on the freeway and as I do she crowds me ever more, anticipating that I will soon be out of her way. By now I can see Latina written all over her face. I touch my brake pedal to slow down just a bit as she begins to swerve. She panics and I see her car nose-dive. I complete my lane change and she comes by with window down screaming. I wave and smile.I get to the gym, a pretty posh place, and note the big Christmas tree. Then I see a menorah with its 9 electric lights, perched on a prominent ledge. The nine lights represent victories over one of the Jews’ manifold enemies. It is all Race folks. So I start to head for the workout room, but cannot stand it and knock on the door of Management. There are many ways how to skin a cat and a lot of people get carried away discussing which method is best. What they forget unfortunately, is that before skinning it we first have to spot, catch, and - some people might even suggest - kill the cat.

The main reason why the dissident movement is so embarrassingly ineffective is that it is so busy bickering and bitching within its ranks.

Dissidents - by definition - are not a very agreeable lot. If they keep refusing to work with anyone who doesn't totally agree with them on everything, they will never be able to mount a force strong enough to achieve anything.

Following on the NYTimes report acknowledging the well-known fact that income levels do not account for race differences in IQ, another report emphasizes that poverty does not account for the family instability. This study followed “5,000 children and their urban, primarily minority parents.” Only 50% of the fathers were living with mothers at the time of the birth of the child, and “within five years, a tiny 15% of the unmarried couples had taken wedding vows, while a whopping 60% had split up. At the five-year mark, only 36% of the children lived with their fathers, and half of the other 64% hadn’t seen their dads in the last month. One-half to two-thirds of the absent fathers provided little or no financial support.” Things got worse when both the mothers and especially the fathers went on to have children with other partners.

Coming on the eve of midterm elections, many asked about the political importance of the "Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear" organised by comedians Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. Would it be able to help the Democrats bounce from what is looking like a major shellacking coming their way today?

Given the lack of any real shared political platform or vision for the country, the political relevance of the rally seems unworthy of serious discussion. There was no call to action or clear directives. It was as if the centre-left has moved on from Moveon.org. I did my best to comfort her, though secretly rejoiced because the cunning bastard, nomen est omen , used to be a veritable bane for the local sparrows and blackbirds, and long since had I weighed means of abandoning him in a far-away place without coming under suspicion. If you can’t beat them join them. This is what one can conclude after observing the results of the recent PR stunt in Israel by Heinz-Christian Strache, head of the Austrian FPÖ, Geert Wilders of the Dutch PVV, and Filip De Winter of the Vlaams Belang. Faced with the Muslim invasion of Europe, there are rightwing voices in Europe who seriously think that European nationalists need to strike a deal with Zionists. Their working hypothesis goes that criticizing the Islamic threat can be best countered if and when framed within the parameters of anti-Arab Zionist discourse. The assumption is widespread that eventually some green light will start blinking in Tel Aviv and provide a safe venue for Muslim bashing in Europe.

But more is at stake with the Jerusalem visit by these three politicians. Many European nationalists, similar to all politicians across the board in the USA and Europe, realize that political legitimacy at home can only be achieved if it receives prior blessing in Israel. Thus the visit of these brave Euro right-wingers only bears testimony as to who is the real boss in world affairs. The Michael Steele era as RNC Chairman will soon come to an end. Steele is expected to announce today he is dropping out of the race for a second term. His departure is the latest success story in the conservative grassroots lighting a fire underneath the GOP establishment.

Steele had laughably tried to take credit for the success of Republicans in the midterm elections. Non-Whites voted overwhelmingly for Democrats as usual. His minority outreach strategy (with that absurd “What Up” blog and the redesign of GOP.com) was a dismal failure. It was the dramatic swing in the White vote in the Heartland (something Steele had nothing to do with) that made all the difference.

According to the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/Aids (UNAIDS) there are currently 33 million people said to be HIV positive, over the past 12 months there were 2.6 million new cases. Last year 1.8 million HIV positive persons died of Aids-related-illnesses. The figures provide grim reading.

Historically, being HIV positive meant an inevitable early passing as a result of Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (Aids). However, due to progress primarily in medical science, the tides are turning, with HIV positive persons experiencing an improvement in the quality of life as well as an increase in life expectancy.
