"Creating" Jobs With Stimulus Money

Posted: 23 Dec 2010 08:00 PM PST

The $787-billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), signed into law by President Obama on February 17, 2009, has been largely forgotten, despite the fact that it consumes hundreds of millions of taxpayers' dollars daily. Earlier this month the Recovery Progress Report summarized: "As of December 1, $466.8 billion of the $787 billion stimulus has been committed to states; $333.8 billion has been paid out." [Note: That adds up to over $800 billion, but the government was never that great at math.]

With deficits surging and inflation rising, we should recall that by 2011, the ARRA was expected to have created over 3.5 million jobs. But unemployment is up to 9.8 percent, a 21 percent increase from when the "stimulus" bill was signed. Unemployed workers have become a class of their own—distressed, demoralized, and destitute.

Why big finance manipulates interest rates

Posted: 23 Dec 2010 05:57 PM PST

Everything you and I have taught about the importance of interest rates in helping or hurting the economy is wrong.

We were told that when interest rates are low the cost of investment will be less and economic growth will result and so forth.

But this is not how Big Finance and the Central Bankers think at all.

Silent Night, Holy Night: A Christmas Eve Message

Posted: 23 Dec 2010 03:59 PM PST

Christmas is the most holy day for the European people wherever we are in the world from Siberia to San Francisco, from Alaska to Auckland. Christmas is even more than a religious moment. For our forefathers took up the Christian faith and expressed its motif in the very art, heart and soul of what we call Western Civilization. Today, Christmas has even transcended that motif. For Christmas has become about all that we celebrate as Europeans. After its Christian symbolism, it is foremost about family, roots and community.

Last Call for a Peaceful Settlement

Posted: 23 Dec 2010 11:34 AM PST

Last week when US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton assigned blame to both the Palestinians and Israelis for the faltering negotiations process, the Palestinians took offense and for good reason. Not only had the American administration suddenly reneged on its former tactic of pushing Israel to extend a settlement freeze but it was now saying the Palestinians also "have not yet made the difficult decisions that peace requires." Other, unofficial sources (namely Wikileaks) have shown just how much the US administration blames the Palestinians. One purported cable entitled "ME policy recalibration" notes that the "USG focus on obtaining freeze in Israeli settlements in the West Bank for additional 90 days has been discontinued. Recognized that previous 10-month freeze was wasted by Palestinian Authority, which failed to enter direct talks in good faith."

What Will Work, Part Three

Posted: 23 Dec 2010 08:03 AM PST

In Parts One and Two of What Will Work I talked about the importance of values and the need for a homeland of our own — a place where we can pursue our own destiny and a safe haven from evil where our children can be raised in a loving, wholesome atmosphere. The current system has not only betrayed us, it lusts after our destruction. It is a cheating spouse turned savage, and we want a divorce. We'll take the kids, too — the faithless traitor has no interest in them.

To begin the process of securing our homeland, we first need to come home. This must start modestly, yet we must establish a physical, fully functional society within a specific geographic boundary. Only two ingredients are necessary for the founding of such a society. The first is a set of common values, and the second is financial security. These two mutually inclusive qualities are all it takes. We will talk about the latter in Part Four. The former, being common values, are what we will discuss today, although there will be some overlap since, as we shall see, common values and financial security go hand in hand.

Bankers, Oligarchs, Media Magnates and Leakers

Posted: 23 Dec 2010 05:16 AM PST

In a recent interview with Democracy Now's Amy Goodman,
world-renowned British novelist John le Carré briefly touched the third rail of respectable political discourse:

JOHN LE CARRÉ: We also have a charming case, which we look back on with embarrassment, where a leading member of the Rothschild family and our present Chancellor of the Exchequer—that's finance minister—and the éminence grise of the Labour Party at that time, Lord Mandelson, were all found holidaying together off the coast of Corfu, sitting on the boat of a man called Deripaska, who at that time, I believe, was wanted in the United States for—on money laundering charges. So we have a certain amount of evidence before us which you would think would silence critics who say we're all in perfect shape.

9/11 Video: Tower Explosions Occurred Prior to Plane Impact

Posted: 23 Dec 2010 03:38 AM PST

Why do we get so much written about 9/11?

It is almost ten years now since the tragic and deadly attacks on the world trade center WTC in New York, and still so many bloggers, writers and political pundits are writing on the subject trying to better understand what happened on 9/11. And no matter how much is written about 9/11 it always seems not enough for them nor for their audience.

WikiLeaks: A Very Short Coincidence Theory

Posted: 23 Dec 2010 01:15 AM PST

It is surely just a coincidence that the law firm – Finers Stephens Innocent – which represents Julian Assange and set up the Julian Assange Defense Fund is also legal adviser to the Rothschild Waddesdon Trust; that the partially Rothschild-owned Economist gave Assange its 2008 Freedom of Expression Award; that Lord Rothschild is deputy chairman of BSkyB, whose warmongering chairman Rupert Murdoch and his propagandist father were lauded as fearless advocates of the truth by the WikiLeaks founder in an op-ed in the Murdoch-owned The Australian; that Benjamin Netanyahu, who often stays with Murdoch in London and has the award-winning pro-Israel media magnate on his "list of millionaires" (i.e. potential donors), was not only the sole world leader "undoubtedly delighted" by the leaks but was singled out by Assange as a believer in diplomatic transparency; and that the criminal state for which WikiLeaks provided an unexpected "diplomatic coup" was first promised to British Zionists in an enigmatic 1917 letter to an earlier Lord Rothschild.

Is it Better to Be Misunderstood or Ignored?

Posted: 21 Dec 2010 02:22 PM PST

After I recently savaged Rich Lowry's syndicated review of Deirdre McCloskey's book Bourgeois Dignity, Professor McCloskey indicated that I have no right to discuss her work until I've read it from cover to cover. I explained to her that I've nothing against her work, only Lowry's embarrassing commentary on it. For all I know, her book is better. There is no way it could be worse than Lowry's review.

This leads to a cost-benefit analysis of having one's work publicized in the national press. Given the generally low intelligence and/or ideological hobbyhorses of those who typically write puff pieces in the national press, one should not expect accurate, comprehensive analyses of scholarly works. What one gets instead are botched, selective readings aimed at politically definable readers.

Casino Jack: Homo Conman Politicus

Posted: 21 Dec 2010 01:09 AM PST

Casino Jack is a consistently amusing biopic starring Kevin Spacey as the manic, bull-necked Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who recently spent three and a half years in prison for, as far as I can tell, running a little more amok than is considered seemly among Washington insiders.

As Abramoff brushes his teeth in the opening scene, he pumps himself up for a long day of throwing his weight around with his own personal 1980s action-movie catchphrase: "I am Jack Abramoff and, oh yeah, I work out every day." When Abramoff escorts his Indian-chief clients in eagle-feather headdresses into the Oval Office, George W. Bush greets him with, "Hey, Buff Guy, what are you benching?"

While it may seem the elephant in the living room is an embarrassed global-warming-turned-climate-change crowd, we may be missing some major factors staring us in the face. And deliberately so. Do you expect to be told the whole truth?

In fact, the idiots are saying the cooling is happening BECAUSE of the warming! And people believe it! They've been so shamed for being alive and having a carbon footprint they feel guilty and thereby not in a position to contest this insanity.

Questions About Your Mother

Posted: 23 Dec 2010 02:19 PM PST

If you saw criminal thugs hitting and dragging your mother as seen in the picture below, what would you do? What would you do if your government defended such criminals, even ordered them to steal everything from your family and mistreat your mother like that during Christmas? What would you suggest should be done to protect this woman from the thugs?

Obama's Indecisiveness Defines His Presidency

Posted: 23 Dec 2010 12:02 PM PST

He may still possess the poise of a confident leader and an eloquent intellectual, but the presidency of Barack Obama is now suffering its most difficult phase to date.

Certainly, Obama cannot solely be blamed for all the factors that have stifled his country's chances of recovery from the failures of the Bush era. But the man who promised the moon has now extended the abhorrent and morally unjustifiable tax cuts for America's wealthiest class. The "sweeping" $858 billion tax bill was signed into law on December 17. It includes an $801 billion package of tax cuts, extending Bush's tax break for the rich for two more years – at a time when the majority of Americans are reeling under the weight of a failing economy and persistently high unemployment.

Internet Access is Not a "Civil Right"

Posted: 22 Dec 2010 08:00 PM PST

When bureaucrats talk about increasing our "access" to x, y or z, what they're really talking about is increasing exponentially their control over our lives. As it is with the government health care takeover, so it is with the newly approved government plan to "increase" Internet "access." Call it Webcare.

By a vote of 3-2, the Federal Communications Commission on Tuesday adopted a controversial scheme to ensure "net neutrality" by turning unaccountable Democratic appointees into meddling online traffic cops. The panel will devise convoluted rules governing Internet service providers, bandwidth use, content, prices and even disclosure details on Internet speeds. The "neutrality" is brazenly undermined by preferential treatment toward wireless broadband networks. Moreover, the FCC's scheme is widely opposed by Congress—and has already been rejected once in the courts. Demonized industry critics have warned that the regulations will stifle innovation and result in less access, not more.

Government Insists al-Qaeda Has Plan to Poison Buffets and Salad Bars

Posted: 21 Dec 2010 12:38 PM PST

First it was underwear, then barbeque gas canisters and toner cartridges. Now it is the local buffet and salad bar. Once again, the incompetent terror group al-Qaeda plans to kill random freedom lovers, at least according to nameless officials in the government.

"The United States has received information the group — al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula — was considering the tactic of placing ricin and cyanide poisons into food supplies, Department of Homeland Security officials confirmed to CNN."

The Battle for Control of Smart Cities

Posted: 20 Dec 2010 02:19 PM PST

Who will own the brains of smart cities–citizens or corporations? At stake is an impending massive trove of data, not to mention issues of privacy, services, and inclusion. The battle may be fought in the streets between bands of Jane Jacobs-inspired hacktivists pushing for self-serve governance and a latter-day Robert Moses carving out monopolies for IBM or Cisco instead of the Triborough Bridge Authority. Without a delicate balance between the scale of big companies and the DIY spirit of "gov 2.0" champions, the urban poor could be the biggest losers. Achieving that balance falls to smarter cities' mayors, who must keep the tech heavyweights in check and "frame an agenda of openness, transparency and inclusivness."

Jimmy Carter says America is ready for gay president

Posted: 23 Dec 2010 11:22 AM PST

Former prez Jimmy Carter says America is almost to the point where being a homosexual wouldn't keep someone from being elected president. He says a homo couldn't get elected in 2012, but maybe 2016.

Is he right?

No, but he's not wrong by much. Maybe 10 or 15 years, at most. America prides itself on Diversity and Tolerance, which means sexual perversion should be celebrated, not condemned. Of course, not all Americans are 100% with the program, but it's just a matter of time until the vast majority of people come around. And that includes "conservatives", too.

Ameer Makhoul's perpetual trial

Posted: 22 Dec 2010 07:43 PM PST

We arrive at the Haifa court building around 11am, half an hour after proceedings began in the ongoing trial of Ameer Makhoul, a leading Palestinian activist who holds Israeli citizenship and was arrested in his home in the middle of the night last May.

Homeland Security's Coming War Against 9/11 Truth Activists

Posted: 20 Dec 2010 07:46 PM PST

Rep. Peter King of New York is about to become chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee. On Saturday, King announced he will hold hearings on the "radicalization of the American Muslim community." King is convinced al-Qaeda has penetrated America and is now recruiting citizens to engage in terrorist acts.

"We want to assess the extent of the radicalization of the Muslim community," said King. "It's clear to me there has not been sufficient cooperation."

Christian Rout in the Culture War

Posted: 23 Dec 2010 04:29 PM PST

Patrick Buchanan A Democratic Congress, discharged by the voters on Nov. 2, has as one of its last official acts, imposed its San Francisco values on the armed forces of the United States.

"Don't ask, don't tell" is to be repealed. Open homosexuals are to be welcomed with open arms in all branches of the armed services.

Let us hope this works out better for the Marine Corps than it did for the Catholic Church.

Haaretz journalist doubles as anti-"delegitimization" operative

Posted: 23 Dec 2010 08:11 AM PST

Haaretz has an international reputation as Israel's most liberal and reliable newspaper. But The Electronic Intifada has discovered that one of the newspaper's regularly-featured reporters, Cnaan Liphshiz, used his news reports for the publication to promote the agenda of an extreme pro-Israel group with which he was also employed.

At the same time, Liphshiz appears to have made efforts to conceal his work with the Dutch Zionist group CIDI (Centre for Documentation and Information on Israel), an undisclosed conflict of interest which calls into question the reliability of his reports and the editorial standards of Haaretz.
